I recently acquired the 7x57 rifle that was built by Gentry on a Remington 700 action in the classifieds here. Been a long time since I've had a 7x57, looking forward to trying some of the newer .284" fodder that wasn't around the last time I had one. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...custom-moutain-rifle-7x57-mauser-spf-spf

I see it's a 9" twist barrel. If you're looking to load some of the newer long and slick projectiles keep an eye out for their twist requirements.

Correct and thank you, but far from my first rodeo... lol! What is the intent of the op for starting the thread? Just watched a youtube video on handloading "101", and boy there is some stupid stuff on the internet right now. I feel sorry for the guys starting out in handloading for the first time. There's so much fu cking garbage out there right now, that it will make your head spin off. So again, what is the intent of the OP?? If it is not to ask questions on how to load for a 7x57, is it to point out that he knows wtf he's doing? Why start the thread? Furthermore, there's nothing special about loading for a 7x57. It's just like any other centerfire cartridges you load for. Maybe the op can show how he works up a load, post some good pics and carry on?
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I didn't see the OP in a bad light at all. More like a friendly conversation starter about a new project rifle with the additional aspect of modernizing a classic cartridge for lack of a better description.

Ahhhh yes, another knee-jerk, passive-aggressive reaction from the paper tiger. What is your intent when you continually show the same phuggin' photos of the same phuggin' targets? Dean is good peeps and likely excited about the new-to-him gem.

Anytime one gets a new 7x57, it's an exciting time! For sure. I got a new 7x a few months back. Decided to keep it easy with some Sierra 140 SBT's and 48 grains of H4350. It'll work for this year. I am calling it good enough to hunt..

Thanks Joe, it is exciting and nice beretzs! Right now, I'm in the process of acquiring "supplies" to get the 7x57 up and running. Probably going to replace the recoil pad on the rifle, LOP is 13.25" and I need it to be longer. So I'll be messing with a slip on until I get the correct LOP down for this rifle. Hopefully soon, I'll be able to start some range reports! Thanks!

One of the more friendly cartridges to work with. Looking forward to the reports.

Took a look back in my load data and I had 3 loads that I had kept - 140's, 160's, and 175's.
140 NBT using Varget, 160 NPT using H4350, and 175 NPT using H4831SC. These were out of a 9.5" twist barrel.
Too dang much fun...

I dropped by one of my LGS's today to find a 7x57 Rem Mountain Rifle. A handful of stock dings from proper usage, $1200.

EdM, the deal I got on this Gentry gets better and better! Thanks tzone, was fortunate to find what I needed and it's all on the way to me. Once it's all received, all I'll need is time and opportunity. Thanks!

Every rifle is a rule unto itself, but every 7x57's seem to be a whole book. I guess that just means you get to do a bit more fiddling around despite the cartridge itself being pretty easy to load.
I loaded up some JB/Mule Deer 46.0gr H4350 under a 154 Interlock to the range the other day for the first time. Shot really well for that rifle, but we're only going about 2250fps. This rifle has always been on the SLOW end of the 7x57 spectrum. I can count on 7mm-08 max loads a start point, but that would be dicey with a lot of other rifles.
