For me…

Im not the best at sharpening…

So i dont let a knife get dull..

Ill strop after each use ( use as skinning a deer)

Ive bought and made a bunch of strops..

Best IMO are from horse leather..

Buy some grade B or whatever its called from ebay or Maverick leather supply.

A 1/2”x4” oak board from Lowes/HD and good contact cement.

Load with a good compound or diamond spray.

to keep sharp, the best system I have found for me is https://www.steamboatsupersharpeners.com/. The owners are great people as well. Lots of different systems to sharpen a knife. I still use stones but there are a lot of different systems

And a lot of different steels. I find S30V to be a real whore and Benchmade knives and I use diamonds on those. I generally only use diamonds that don't respond to stones, ceramic.

A good ceramic rod and leather strop, as mentioned, will keep them going. I've used Lansky since the 80's but only when I need to bring a knife back to life.

Workshop has various easy options with angle guides.

A handy pocket one for knives that respond to pull threw, though you can still freshen a blade the ceramic on the side and the diamond rod as well.

One of the best sharpener I ever used came with a Track custom knife. Folded leather and inside a block of wood with 400grit sand paper held in place with a long bolt. Lost it many years ago but recently made myself a new one. Grind on the paper and strop on the leather. Best knife sharpener I eveer used!

I've used a Gatco for years with good results. Same concept as Lansky, but uses bigger stones. I recently got a Worksharp unit which I expect to be an upgrade, but haven't used it yet.

I feel like the Gatco is a better quality overall than the Lansky. I have both and gave the Lansky away. I seldom use the Gatco nowadays, a Spyderco Sharpmaker takes care of touchups and an Apex Pro handles the more involved sharpening chores. With that said I used the Gatco for years with good results.

Worksharp Precision Adjust has made my arm bare of hair.

$59 for the base model that I have. Upgrades from there.

Harb*r Fri*ght has a decent dual grit whetstone
for $2.99
Not as good as a genuine Norton, but very
serviceable. I have and use several, and there's
an unused spare in the food storage area
