I need a recommendation of a precision gunsmith somewhere in the mid-west.

My nephew has a beautiful family heirloom rifle that was made Austria and chambered in 25-06.

It may need good tuneup, such as trigger, bedding, etc

You could ask at a local mom & pop gun shop, maybe give a better location. I’d much rather drive to a place than ship.

The other option is DIY TLC. Depending on the type of trigger or action, you may be able to Google up helpful information.

Get a few reviews before sending a gun or dropping off. Just like with taxidermy, a few horror stories of things stuck at a shop much longer than expected.


A deep cleaning, off the stock, easy. Some trigger improvement or replacement, usually fairly easy. The mention of ‘bedding’ has the potential to be more involved, opinions vary. I’d start with a ‘floated barrel’, no pressure from the stock. There are easy ways to get there.

After that, it’s helpful to try a few types of suitable ammo.

Years ago I dropped a S&W revolver at a gunshop for some work then reassemble. It was taking a long time. I went & got it back, in a bag all apart. I utubed my way to get it back together, works fine. Yeah, call me Bubba if you want.

Can't help you in the ND? area, but there are plenty of good smiths in the north central midwest that you could ship to. Nothing "precision" in any of the work you are looking to have done. Any competent gunsmith should be able to tune the trigger and bed it properly. Considering the heirloom aspect, I would make sure to specify the the bedding part of the project does not alter the wood to metal lines. Why do you think it needs to be bedded?
