I bought a hundred back when they came out, equalled 140 Sierra's on paper in my Swede target rifle...then I shot 3 or 4 into my packed snow expansion media...they expanded fine at Swede velocities, maybe a little bit frangible...then I used them on a couple of small blacktail deer, average results...they had a fair BC of .585...not world changing, but respectable. Was it a fluke.....did I get a good lot#? Anybody else try them?
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

OK, yeah, that must be it, there was a period of time back then if you didn't have .650 BC...nobody was buying your bullets.

I really liked the various Amax bullets. I had a really good load for the 178 grain one in 308.

They wanted to sell the ELD-X and ELD-M lines. Which the M replaced the A-Max correct? Why have the same product but different lines?

The X is a game bullet with an interlock ring and so on. Which is why I stated M since talking A-Max.

Didn't it have to do with Amax tips melting in flight which lead to the thermally stable eld tip and making the Amax then redundant?.mb

Some of the designs are slicked up. If I can get done handling some unexpected obligations this evening I'll post a pic of a 168 grain, .308" Amax next to a similar weight ELD-M.

I just wish they would start making round nose bullets with a flat base instead of all the new fangled bullets. I would like some 243 round nose and some .270 Win round nose.

I've taken three deer with the 140 6.5 A-max. Not a huge pile, but each was a slam dunk. Fortunately, I have a bunch of 168s for the .308. Consistent half inch and under groups. Haven't had it hunting yet, mostly because it's 9-10 lbs.
