Thanks for the suggestions.

If the boy deigns to drive for a kolache, he'll head back to the family's stompin' grounds in Hilje. His Great Grandfather, & Great-Great Grandfather owned Hilje Country Grocery, the precursor to Prasek's. Kolaches are in his blood.

The owner told me years ago they sold 2 truckloads (80k lbs) a week of smoked meat.

Their deli sammiches kick azz, too.

I don't get back there nearly often enough.

Klobasnek is the pig in a blanket.

Not sure where in Muenster you would get good kolaches, Bayers bakery might have some. Hess and Fischers for sausage. Spouse is from Muenster.

local_dirt maybe now you see Austin is not the best town to get kolaches.

Greens Sausage House outside of Temple if you get up that way. Mrs. Green is probably gone but her recipe is pure Czech.

West, TX is a good place to start. I like Slovacek's and it has various sausages, meat market, and a bakery as well. Czech Stop and bakery across the highway is 24 hours and pretty good too. In fact most of the little german and czech towns around Waco and in the Hill Country will have good kolaches.

You wouldn't catch me in Austin on a good day. That's for sure. I thought there were too many liberals back when I was there in 2000.

I had to google 'kolache', read the description, saw the photos...I still don't get it. Whats the big deal?
Sometimes Texans get a little carried away with 'trends', I think.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

They are something that relies more on heritage/tradition than on taste/flavor.
