It has between 16 and 19 solar masses. When it cooks, it'll cook wonderfully.

Wrong! 7.9987. LOL. Just kidding. So, after red giant phase, down to a white dwarf? That will still be worth staying up to see.

Our sun will swell to red giant in a few billion years then go nova leaving a white dwarf.

Betelgeuse lifespan will measure in the millions or less, rather than billions like our sun. When it dies it may leave a black hole or neutron star as a remnant. Much bigger event.

From some of the things I’ve read of it, we may actually get a chance to see it in our lifetime.
As Futara mentioned, I think it’ll be plainly visible in daytime and rival the full moon at night.
Easily the most spectacular sight in the heavens since the star that led the wise men to Bethlehem a couple thousand years ago.
I haven’t studied astronomy much since Jr High.
Muscle Cars and shooting/reloading sorta knocked it outta my interest as I got older.

Maybe not. Nobody knows what the star of Bethlehem was although there have been lots of educated guesses. When the Jews were released from the Babylonian captivity, not all returned to Israel. Some scholars believe that the wise men were likely Jewish scholars who were descended from those in captivity. They knew the scriptures and recognized it for what it was. There's no indication that anyone else saw it or knew what it was. Certainly Herod's people didn't see it. The last part of the scripture is a head scratcher. It went ahead of them to Bethlehem and stood over the house, showing them exactly where Jesus was. How can a star do that? How can it be low low as to indicate a specific house in a town? Maybe it wasn't a star at all.

It was very bright again last night. I went out and looked about 11:00 PM. Just above the tree line, bright, red, and twinkling.
