And have pics to show it happened. Not sure how much I'll be able to post as I have a ton of scheidt to get done before Monday, when I lose the use of my dominant arm due to shoulder surgery. Been through it twice before, so I know the deal.

No deer were injured as far as I know. Neither was I. And the truck made it back. 2200 miles on the odometer when I got home.

Got lucky, drew a one week muzzleloader tag in AZ this fall. Long ass drive, but I miss AZ having lived there for a few years. Have a lifetime license so only have to pay for the non-res tag. And Biden gas to get there.

The way to start a long trip.............a clean truck bed

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Got everything packed in the truck, a meal, and as I always run a few hours later than planned departure time making sure everything is taken care of around the place, I didn't beat the weather coming in. Was lucky though, by the time I was 60 miles or so from home it was all rain after that.

Long-ish drive that evening, slept in a rest area in Luning NV. Quite a difference since the last time I slept there, where in the hell did all the semi traffic on that little highway come from??? Awoke and saw dawn over Tonopah.

Drove all day, got to relative's place in Flagstaff, took a shower and slept in a bed instead of a truck. The road in to the hunt area, 20 or so miles S of Flag

Camp, same place I was in 2014. Weather in late Oct/early Nov is whole lot nicer than in the following pic from Chrismas week in 2014. Did get down around 16F one night, but that's better than 8F in a tent.

More to come. You sluggards, get off yo asses and get out there

I love Modoc County .
Most here haven't a clue.
Seen Highway Patrolman shooting coyotes out his car with his AR15.

I "hunted" up there three times in the late 70's, high school. At that point in life I should not have shot what I shot at. BIG mule hundreds of yards away. I missed, thankfully, but did meet the hunter and deer over the ridge as we hoped for a hit on one of them. A very large 6x6 was had by the other hunter. Beautiful place. How hard is it for an in-stater to draw a tag up there these days?

Great to see you back, and take it easy. Spread that story over time, while you get back into the groove.

I’ve had acromioplasty and calcium excision on the shoulder. I guess with your experience I don’t have to tell you, but here goes anyway:

Keep it cold, keep it elevated, don’t exert, yadda yadda.

Hard and I'm up to Max deer points. Waiting on Daughter to get a week one of these years and enough points to put us into top tier for draw.

Depends on the unit on chooses to try for a tag, Ed.

Generally speaking, it's a multi-year wait though unless the gods are smiling on you. In the unit I live in, it even takes about 3 years to draw an archery tag, which are easier draws than a general tag.

Yeah, nice pics Geno.

I believe that one went 175 cleaned on the scale at Idaho Market in Susanville.

They had a monster in the locker that year from 6A. 250lb I believe hanging weight.

Seems no one has taken the can, but I didn't see the lid anywhere around. The lid was under the can, and I left it that way, in 2014

Bob, I've tried to. But it's getting to where even the drugs don't keep the pain down to a low roar anymore. Can't roll over on that side without it waking me up.

I was kinda wondering how I'd haul our, dress and skin a deer with one bad arm. Maybe best I didn't get one??? Nah, I'd have liked to have done it. Might have had to just eat a bunch on site!

Growing up in SoCal with those little tiny desert type mulies, and going to school on the coast with the blacktails there, I'll never forget the first Modoc Bucks I saw when I was working in this area in '98. Had to drive out to the Clear Lake NWR from Tulelake and a bachelor herd of good size ones ran across the road in front of us.

I thought "These fuggers are the size of small horses!"

Got screwed up in my timeline for a second here. I usually stop on the way south out of Tonopah, NV and gas up at Area 51 so I can just drive straight through Las Vegas until I get to Kingman, AZ. Weird place, but then again NV is.

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Look what's behind the gas station there.............and no, I'm happily married and have no use for the services offered.................unlike in the past perhaps.

Remember, if you never leave your couch and the Andy Griffith show, you don't get to even see this stuff.

Pretty damn low odds of drawing one of the few random quota tags in the x zones...... if you really want to hunt, you could purchase a PLM or "private land management" tag from a landowner.
