As far as new stuff, I'd look at the bergara ridge rifle, I just picked one up in 708, got it under 800.
My main rifle is a ss/syn model 7 in 708, but I don't know how easy it would be to find one

I can't find much wrong with the Christensen Mesa FFP line of rifles. They check a lot of boxes. Stick was working with a 7-08 in a thread.

Howa Alpine’s in 7mm-08 are pretty nifty little rifles.
Might not be the easy button for accuracy out of the box like most Tikkas are, but it’s a good “no Tikka” option for a lightweight, crappy weather rifle. 😎
Livin ain’t killed me yet, but it’s workin on it!

Dont overlook the Ruger M77 especially if you want a wood stock. I'm a Tikka guy myself but my buddy has a M77 in 7-08 and it is a tack driver and really nice rifle.

I had a Ruger American in 7mm-08, very accurate and smooth, my daughter in law has it know. She didn’t like the recoil of the .308 my son shoots but she did like the 7mm-08.

This afternoon saw a new Ruger American 7mm-08 at Capital Sports in Helena, Montana for $438. That is a great deal. One of my buddies just bought 2 RAR ranch rifles in the last week. They both shoot great. The 6.5 Grendel does not feed for schidt though. I think sometimes you get what you pay for. Has anyone asked the OP why no Tikka's??? I know some think they are hype, but damn they shoot good and operate as smooth as a custom. I know a lot of us always suggest Tikka, but that is for damn good reason.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Yep, many of us suggest Tikkas with damn good reason--especially with OTB rifles.
But have also had great luck with RARs, though they sometimes need a little tweaking of the forend and trigger. Generally can do both in about half an hour.
However, they sometimes don't feed certain rounds as well as Tikkas. It depends on the cartridge taper, for the most part--but have also had to modify the magazine-length on some Tikkas to get the best out of 'em.
The Tikkas with heavier barrel contours also tend to shoot VERY well, partly because they use the same barrels as Sakos. The thicker barrels are lapped to more consistent dimensions.

Kimber Montana.
Good luck finding one, though. They're not chambering the new ones in 7-08, and the used market is kinda tight.

Had 6.5 Grendel out of AR rifles and the case design isn't feed friendly. This makes me want to go buy an Tikka T3X.

My 7mm-08 is a M70 EW, and I’m very happy with it. It shoots 140 Accubonds into small groups with around 47 grains of Big Game. There’s not much I’d change with the set up. I’d recommend the M70 to you as well.
