From the “It ain’t the arrow it’s the Indian” files…. Mr Rachamim and his .22 ended up being 2-0 overall vs heavily armed terrorists, including one incident where the odds were four against one. I gotta Google up more details about that 1968 incident. https://www.athlonoutdoors.com/article/israeli-mossad-22-lrs/?

The .22 rimfire is probably the most underrated cartridge of all time. My only handgun is a Ruger SR22 and in the 10 or so years I’ve owned it, I’ve never experienced a misfire or malfunction… good little pistol.

I worked a dozen ambulance calls where a person was killed by a single torso hit from a .22 LR
The cartridge doesn't look like much but it is a vicious man-killer.

One rifle that's always near around the house is a Marlin Model 795 with a 4X scope and detachable 10 round magazines loaded with Winchester hyper velocity 40 grain HPs. (1450 fps) It'll chop a ragged hole at 20 yards with this ammo. It's not my first choice as a defensive tool. But I would feel far from disarmed if it's what I have. It's no big trick to put 5 shots in 3" in 3 seconds at "inside the house" distances with it.
I paid a pittance for the rifle,...$180 or so. I'm probably going to ditch the 4X scope and go with a prism 1X scope that costs more than the rifle.
I'm neither here nor there on Microgrove barrels on Marlin's centerfire rifles. But they're just the ticket for those soft, gooey .22 rimfire bullets.

I've said this a million times but I will say it again:
The 22LR has likely solved more deadly force situations than any other chambering if you excluded actual combat in actual wars and sworn police performing their assigned duties.
I get a kick out of the number of DA, .38 Special recommendations for home protection when the person really needs a 10/22 with a quality red dot.

Pretty cool story. It's interesting that he did everything wrong according to modern doctrine - cold chamber, low capacity mag and a .22 of all things. But nothing succeeds like success... Speaking of success, I have its successor, a Model 87 .22. It's a neat little pistol, overall about the size of a Sig P365X. Only has an 8 round magazine but you can get a 10 rounder that was standard issue for the target model. This is the BB version of the Cheetah series, DA/SA but not a decocker so you can carry it cocked and locked if desired. Very usable three dot sights with a drift adjustable rear. With the low recoil and good SA trigger pull you can really stack the rounds at 7 to 10 yards in rapid succession. Its only limitation, like pretty much any .22 semi-auto, is the ammo you feed it. To be completely objective they don't do anything a Ruger SR22 wouldn't do, they just do it with a lot more style!
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I am in agreement with the 10/22 part but I don't see any need for the red dot, at home protection distances it is just going to be "point and shoot". I use the 10/22 with a Ruger factory 25 round magazine as my home protection gun. I have run full magazines of mini-mags through the rifle four times as a confidence builder that they are not going to jam or misfeed and have never had a bobble with this set-up. drover
223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.

drover Your point regarding an optic is absurd. Optics provide an advantage that is undeniable. Full mags four times? LOL OK. Glad it works for you.

Interesting article. This is my pick for the smallest pocket pistol. It does require CCI stingers to perform properly.
