News of the weird....

NEWPORT, Wash. -- The Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office is looking for a 64-year-old Tibetan monk. The Sheriff's office says he was wearing maroon robes and a jacket when he was last seen Tuesday afternoon.

"We were all surprised. We all were very concerned," said Thubten Chonyi, who is senior buddhist nun at the Sravasti Abbey monastery.

She says Tibetan monk Dadul Namgyal is a great instructor for residents at the abbey.

"He's a wonderful scholar, a wonderful teacher, and an excellent practitioner," Chonyi said.

She says he left for a walk after lunch Tuesday afternoon. He didn't come back for the evening meeting. She says he was new to the area.

"We assumed somewhere along the line his walk yesterday. He walked some places that he didn't know, or he walked some places, who knows if he fell or something," Chonyi said.

Starting at 8 p.m. Tuesday night, the Pend Oreille County's Search and Rescue team has been in the area.

"We stayed out a little longer than we typically do, hoping to catch up to him," said Mason Murray, a deputy with the Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office.

As temperatures drop, Murray says crews are now looking at other possibilities to expedite the search. They are expanding the search area with more volunteers.

The Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help. If you have any information on his whereabouts, contact the Sheriff's office at (509) 447-3151.

Put some dogs out. The odor of yak milk and dal shouldn’t be hard to miss.

A LOT of lions in that country as well. He may already be reincarnated.

I used to live in Newport. I never saw any Buddhist monks walking around.

He probably stopped by a pizza place and asked if they could make him one with everything.

They had a temple not far from me. Not sure if it’s still there. A couple high school drop out losers went in and robbed and then executed them.

Apparently a monk makes for an easy target.

Hopefully this man is found safe. I remember the monks that lived around here back in the day. Very nice people.
