It's been a while since I checked, and after 10 minutes on hold, I decided I'd just post the question.

I hate being out on hold

Everytime I've questioned, I get a quicker answer via fax FWIW, but all I've heard when I questioned is get in line, they do a few here and there.....

I was told in december last year that they would be in production in two months I heard that some shipped mid summer but as yet I have not seen one nor have I talked to any one else who has except at shot. I got tired of waiting and started building mine myself ( with help from Marty TW at Teppo Jutsu) I am waiting on Barrel and bolt now I think I will have mine done before RRA is in prodution for real.

Talked to a rep at the Knob Creek machine gun shoot last week. Asked if they were going to make a .204 upper. He said their hands were full trying to keep up with .223 and 6.8 uppers - has no plans for anything else.

I saw a picture of an RRA .458 over on ARFCOM. So there are at least a few out there in circulation.

I've seen other big-bore uppers like the 50 Beowulf but I've heard a lot more lately about the 458 SOCOM. Would you guys say the 458 SOCOM will be a "standard" cartridge or is this going go be a "here today, gone tomorrow" proposition??

I have never tried to access a 458 Socom but believe their are other quality builders putting them together so if someone really wanted one, they could get one. Those other makers advertise their uppers a higher prices than RRA is asking for theirs and that may be why some are willing to wait. I doubt the caliber will be a flash in the pan as it has been around for a while and grows in popularity maybe as much from RRA anticipation as from it's own merits but neither believe it to be the holy grail.

450 Bushmaster is actually in production, (if I understand correctly) if'n a guy has just got to have a 45 caliber AR.

The 450 Bushmaster aka 45 tactical is a 45 cal AR for sure but the place it deviates from the Socom is it like the Beo is pushing PISTOL bullets at vels that are less then the Socom by a couple hundred FPS. When compairing the Socom to any other Ar Chambered in any thing think of the Socom as a hot 45-70 semi auto AR because that is what it is.
The others besides RRA building them would be Castle Arms and the inventor of the round Teppo Juttsu

Just curious - why would RRA guarantee 3/4"-1" for 223Rem and only 1.5" for the 458 SOCOM??

Also, I'm not wild about the RRA 458 SOCOM upper config (I'd prefer stainless). Is RRA definitely the best bet for an upper or are there better options out there for around the same $$? wink

RRA will be the cheapest. Not sure about the best.

I have a Rock River .458 SOCOM in for T&E right now. It's very accurate and a blast to shoot. I took a nice 12 point W/T with it a few weeks ago, and hope to bust some pigs with it before the season ends.

Been waiting on a T&E for over 3 Months now.

Got Ammo 3 weeks ago from Cor-Bon.
Then was offered a .458 Soccom upper for the T&E.

The other day I was notified the rifle is on the way...

The culprit?
Shortage of Lowers that has been addressed.

Can't wait to put a few into Ordinance Gel!!!!
