As another hunting season gets underway, a new trend is causing quite the stir in the brush

Kevin Clements, an upland game hunter from the outskirts of Seattle, is ditching the traditional masculine orange for something a little more... let's say, eye-catching. Clements, a construction contractor by day and fashion-forward hunter by twilight, is all set to strut through the high desert in bright pink, hunting chukar partridges with both style and controversy, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Clements, ready to be the butt of the joke, admits, "My friends will absolutely give me a lot of crap. But they give me a lot of crap anyway" It appears that the ridicule is a small price to pay for this avant-garde pioneer in the hunting world.

"I hate blaze orange," he continued, rationalizing his choices. "I’m tired of wearing it. So that new pink vest is going on my list."

Washington joins a growing list of states where hunters can now swap their blaze orange for blaze pink, a move that has rattled the cages of traditionalists. Some proponents of pink swear by its visibility and safety benefits — not to mention it may woo more women into the sport. Yet, others see it as a the latest encroachment of woke bullchit into a traditionally masculine sport.

I don't mind pink. I'd happily wear the pink camo that looks like the blaze camo. In Iowa the camo type stuff is not legal for use as the required safety clothing, so I wouldn't wear it here.

No clue what is legal where? Most places still require orange. Although I have had, and have seen, a lot of orange that has been worn/washed/faded to the point that it not all that eye catching at a distance. Any of the ANSI Class 3 hi viz orange / pink / yellow would work for me as long as it kept me from getting "Cheney'ed"...

It makes sense, there is a lot of Orange foliage in the fall. Pink stands out.

I don't have pink clothes or camo, but I have found pink string line does not get lost in the dry grass when building fences.

That's the color of my flagging tape. Stuff can be seen!

Put some duct tape that color on my black binocs - had a problem with leaving them behind. Muy buena! Eye catching. Close onto 20 years now.

Had a forest green phone cover. The dirtier it got the more invisible it became. Spent way too much time looking for the mofo.

Pink duct tape!!! (New one is orange orange - but I'm keeping the roll of pink duct tape handy all the same.)

To you disparagers, I give you these immortal (immoral? ) words.....

I think most critters see in more than just black and white. Birds and fish have full color vision, IIRC. Maybe not quite the same as ours.

It has to 500 square inches of hunter-blaze orange to be legal on Tenn lands, unless youre under landowner exemption.

In fashion-conscious Arkansas, anyone who isn't a fan of orange does have the option of choosing chartreuse according to the regulations. I think you might get a blank stare though if you walk into a local hunting store and say "Do you have that in chartreuse?". Louisiana allows blaze pink. But Mississippi & Texas limit my stylishness by only giving me orange as an option so sticking with that one color keeps things simple.

Blaze Orange is mandated by the game department. There is no other option.
