I use a Delta AMEX for all my purchases as I can wrack up the miles for flight upgrades and hotels. While I do pay off my card every month, I was shocked to see the current APR of 20.72% and climbing to 29.99% for late payments.
The best checking account deposit rate of 5% APY.
With $17.6 trillion in total household debt (credit card debt is $1 trillion of that), the banks are raking it in at the moment an paying nothing for deposits.
Good to be a banker, sucks to be a borrower.

Don't have any CC debt (or any debt for that matter). However AMEX sent me a link saying they were adjusting the rate to 6.9% for a year. Other cards are sky high.

Have used credit cards extensively since the early 1970s. So far have paid zero interest.

With the current APRs, if you only pay the minimum amount it will take 27 years to pay off the balance. 27 years...

I pay my cc off as soon as I get an email saying the statement is available online so the interest rate doesn't matter. After 9/11 I did rack up some interest when my employer went bankrupt and a new job I wanted was hard to find. I made it 8 months before my money ran out.
The rates they charge were once considered usury which used to be a crime before our politicians mostly got bought.

I use one MC card a lot. I transfer money to it every week to pay off any balance. I don't really know, or care, what the APR on it is. We will have the mortgage paid by the end of the year, and then we will be totally debt free.

The key is to have your card through a credit union; always have better rates.

I fail to understand the need for a credit card IF you pay your balance every month? If you are getting points or miles fine but with the advent of the Debit card...... what is the purpose other than a short term loan?

There is an argument that if a card is compromised it's better to not have it be your debit. They're stealing the bank's money, not yours. That said I almost always use our debit card. Rather only spend money I have.

We're the opposite, use AmEx for pretty much everything, rarely use the debit cards. As stated less exposure to fraud for your actual bank accounts.
I wasn't even sure of our credit card interest rate so I just checked, 18.24%!
Luckily we pay off the balance every month or we'd be screwed.

Luckily we pay off the balance every month or we'd be screwed. I've had mine hacked 3-4 times over the last 20 years..... just dispute the charges that aren't mine and new card is in the mail. No biggie..... I guess just easier for me..... I do have a couple credit cards but they are just for an emergency.

I should have added that we get around $1k cash back per year on our CC balance. Nothing big but enough that it's worthwhile. That and I like the spending report for tax purposes.
I'm a terrible book keeper and the CC account helps out in certain ways.
