Shot my first deer with a 6.5 Grendel today and it did great... I hand loaded some 120g Nosler BT's... Shot just behind front should, out the shoulder on the far side... Deer never even took a step. The gun is a Radical Firearms with a 18inch barrel... I swapped out the trigger for a Timney flat trigger and threw a scope on it... Nice gun especially for the money I have in it.

Congrats! How big was the doe, how far?

Congrats! How big was the doe, how far? about 100 yards or so... she probably went 100-110 live... here where I hunt that is your average size doe that are not first year deer or the occasional really old one who might have another 20 pound on it

Being we kill em all the time with Ar in 223, the 6.5 works fine. I did have one deer with a ttsx run a bit further than I thought it should but it was still within about 150 yards dead.
Mostly its always bullet choice and shot placement. For slower rounds and desiring an expanding type bullet we shoot Berger match 120s the most. Pretty good on pigs too with the thermal.

Had an AR in the Grendel, but a friend wanted it. Bought a Howa Mini action after that and use 100g NBT. Works great at its velocities. My 13-year-old son shot a medium size doe with it this year. Works great.

Works great. Just for fun, I have been considering the Howa mini in 6.5 in the carbon model they have... at 4 pounds 10 ozs... some light weight talleys and a light weight Leupold or simular, would make a really nice little package.

I shot a couple of antlerless whitetails during our October early season with the 123 grain SST factory loads.
Just like any other cartridge, if you use a bullet appropriate for the task at hand and send it within the best part of the cartridge's performance window the outcome will depend on the shooter's ability to hit a vital organ or the CNS.
I'm not sure how I feel about the Modern Sporting Rifle platform for the type of deer hunting that I do, but the combination of an MSR and the 6.5 Grendel seems to be a winner.

What kind of velocity does the Grendel get with the 120 bt? Loaded the same bullet for my 260 at 2450 fps for my kids and assumed it was Grendelish…

I get 2806fps with a 100gr NP and a healthy dose of A2520 in my 22" Howa Mini Grendel.

I could have googled or checked one of my reloading manuals. Was making friendly conversation more than anything else. Thanks anyway though. Looks like I’m right around Grendel max loads.

Nosler doesn’t publish 6mm ARC data?
