compare the felt recoil of a .300 Rem. Ultra Mag (using the heaviest 180 gr. factory load) what other rifle/cartridge would you compare it to?

TIA,

Kodiak

I shot my cousins right before bear season and it was about the same as my dads 338. Either way they both are a little much for me to shoot accurately.

I think the 300 ultra and 8mm rem mag are very similar in recoil

A .300 Weatherby in Weatherby factory loads. Not 2 cents worth of difference.

Must be my imagination, but I found the 300 RUM a more difficult rifle to shoot than a 300 Roy or 300 Win Mag.Maybe just me; but the rifle lasted one day and a box of ammo. I've fired 340 Weatherby's that were more comfy....maybe just the particular rifles I've used.

The 280 Remington is overbore.

The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

That's really difficult to do because there are some many variables to consider: weight of gun, gun fit, shape of stock and effectiveness of recoil pad, among others. To be accurate all of these would have to be comparable....in both guns. Perhaps this will help answer your question in the abstract, however

I had been using a 300 WBY for about 20 years before I got my 300 Ultra 2 years ago. Both rifles are stocked in a classic style with Limbsaver pads and weigh in at about 8.5 lbs bare and 10 or so all up. I would say, personally, the the 300 Ultra is an upgrade in the recoil dept. Similar to me to my 340 WBY.

I helped a bud put together a 300 RUM a while back. He's a big time bird hunter and he felt it was much like his 12 ga with 3 1/2's.
The guy at the gun counter made it sound like it was the worst thing coming down the stretch!

When Tim fired it the first couple of times he said this is no bigga deal.
Personally I concur, for me it is no bigga deal at least in the rigs I've ran it in (700 BDL stls/syn and a Lam 700)

Like others have mentioned it is like a 340 with the 200's.
