The desert is a true treasure for him who seeks refuge from men and the evil of men. In it is contentment In it is death and all you seek (Quoted from "The Bleeding of the Stone" Ibrahim Al-Koni)

Iāve been told NO to chiropractors by every doctor Iāve trusted.fwiw
When I went to my doc about a bad episode of back pain and nerve pain down my leg, he sent me to a chiro. Iād been suffering for about 20 years with it, bouncing between annoying to debilitating.
The chiro diagnosed me in just a few minutes, popped the SI joint back in, and showed me how to mobilize it myself as needed, since it wanted to go back āhomeā where it had been for 20 years for quite a while.
Iāve got a good one I go to occasionally, still. Iām a big guy, 6ā5ā, but this big Samoan dude cracks me like a pretzel. Heās definitely on my Christmas card list.
I have one i use for my shoulders and neck and i am pleased with the increase of movement.
I have bone spurs that were broken off from the neck bones and at times limit my movement to the right, one trip to her and it feels and moves much better.
My first one of several had the six-week course in Kalifornia. He had me on the 52 week schedule and overbilled my insurance. He kept urging me to take some simple vitamins he sold and then billed my insurance company about $300 for them.
The last one I went to, I told him that I knew I had curvature of the spine, one leg shorter than the other, an enlarged ball, and carpal tunnel syndrome. I just told him I needed my back popped and that's all. I told him I didn't want to be paralized from the neck down. We both laughed and he did as I asked.
A few years ago, my left ankle started hurting. I hadn't injured it but, it hurt so bad I could barely work the clutch, and I was driving an 18 wheeler 14 hours a day at the time. I went to the MD, the foot specialist. He wanted to give me a steroid injection into the ankle, and a second shot a month later. He wanted to write a scrip for muscle relaxers, and a $5K MRI downtown. If that didn't work we would go to surgery next month.
There are nasty side effects with steroid shots.
I went across the street the next day to the chiropractor. He got out a small steel disc and vigorously rubbed my ankle for 5 minutes. That provided instant relief. He told me to find a 3 inch wide flat rock, and to rub my own ankle once a day for a week. I did it and the problem went away. One visit to the chiropractor.
There you go, the MD wants some nasty shots followed by surgery. The chiropractor rubs your ankle for 5 minutes.
On the other hand... Before I found this good chiropractor, I went to a different chiropractor. On the initial visit, the nurse said I needed to watch a 15-minute video. I told her I didn't want to see a video. She insisted. I sat down in the room, the video was about how you needed to see a chiropractor once a month for the rest of your life, or you would be ruined. A little "brainwashing video." I made it through 7 minutes of the video and I walked out. The nurse was calling my name as I walked out the door.
Then I went and found the good chiropractor, Dr. Leonard.
One of my sons in law had a sore neck. Has been going to a chiropractor twice a week for years now - and his neck is totally wrecked.
There are a few situations where a "realignment" does relieve pain and other issues. But any chiropractor who tries to convince you it's your spinal alignment that's causing your dandruff and athlete's foot is a quack.
Wife went to one for shoulder pain, he adjusted her neck and she lost her vision within seconds so he adjusted her neck again. I called her a hour or so after her appt time because I had not heard from her. She was able to answer the phone but was confused and said she couldnāt see. I drove up there and walked through the waiting room into the back and she was on a table and couldnt see me. Idiot told me to take her home and put some ice on her neck then bring her back and he would adjust her neck again. I carried her to the car and off to ER we went. Vertebral artery was dissected and she threw 3 clots (strokes). Week in the hospital. Neuro surgeon said this literally happens all the time and to never go back. Said she would have likely died within the night if I had taken her home. Heād been a chiropractor for 40 years but nothing was in his name so he was basically bankrupt on paper. Couldnāt get anyone to pursue anything criminal. I was young and didnāt know any better. Should have sued everyone holding his assets with a better attorney.
Wife recovered fully but was on blood thinner for months.
Iām not saying all chiropractors are bad by any means as im sure there are wonderful ones who have helped people in amazing ways. But that neurosurgeon told me all I needed to hear.
Yes, Chiropractic care works but they are most effective as part of a team.
1. Massage Therapist to get rid of the knots and relax the muscles.
2. Chiropractor to get everything straight.
3. Physical Therapist strengthen your muscles and fix the underlying issues causing your body to go out of alignment.
4. Get in the gym to keep those muscles trained. Most of you old guys need to work on your glutes and spinal erectors.
Excellent point. Applies to most forms of modern health care. Interdisciplinary team approach. Too often somebody posts ignorant crap about only MDs being "real doctors", backed up by anecdotes. If you deal with a provider who refuses to consult or refer, run, don't walk away. Later today I have an appointment with an optometrist to assess an eye that an opthamologist may have screwed up. Note I said "may". I am confident that he will refer to another opthamologist if necessary. Competent, ethical, professionals don't protect their turf. They involve other professionals if it is in the patient's best interests.
Stupidity has its way, while its cousin, evil, runs rampant.
Scam holistic 'medicine' , same as acupuncture, or cupping. Zero credible evidence that it really offers any medical improvement. AND quite a bit of credible evidence that it is detrimental for your bone and joint health.
Go to a reputable orthopedics doctor or medical center that specializes in the specific area you want looked at.
Back around 1980, I went to a chiropractor who became one of the first accredited acupuncturists in the southwest. He studied in China for quite a while. Long story short - he cured my cluster migraines, but it took a while. He didn't try to extend treatment, just fixed me with a combination of both skills. I wish he was still practicing, I'd still go see him - even though I've never had another migraine. Oh, the MD's put me on ergotamine - will precipitate a stroke. Don't need that - the family is prone to them, anyway.
There are good, and clearly not good ones. I have a good one that has on 2 occasions kept me off the surgeon's table. Most recently (about 5-6 weeks ago) I herniated my L4-L5 disc. Not a happy experience. 4 days of consecutive adjustments combined with electro-therapy and cold laser treatment had me walking again with relatively little discomfort. Now I'm about 95% back to normal, just being a little more careful with what I lift, and how much weight I lift. The previous occurence about 6-7 years ago was 5 days before a bison hunt in Wyoming. Picked up a 160qt cooler in the basement and twisted around to clear a table. Popped something out in my back. Called him and he met me at his office on a Sunday afternoon. Getting there was agony. Adjusted my back, and I went back twice during the week for adjustments. Friday morning 1:00am I was in the truck and on my way to Wyoming.
Yes, I took a nice bull, stayed with my daughter in Fort Collins for a few days, and drive back the following Friday.
If you find a good one, you're golden. If not, you can get hurt........
To anger a conservative, lie to him. To annoy a liberal, tell him the truth.
I have a deal whereby my hips get out of whack sometimes, can be for the smallest thing, and especially if I don't do my prescribed exercises and am traveling.
Anyway, my Chiropractor charges me $50 (used to be $45) for about 10 mins of pushing and pulling to get them back in place, and I don't have the heart to tell him I'd gladly pay twice that for the relief it gives me.
