Victor dog food issued a voluntary recall of all it's dried kibble products because somebody's dog got sick. They tested the bag of food and found salmonella. Further testing of other products didn't find anything.
Anyway they took everything off the market.
This was our best selling line of dog food. Very popular because they had a variety that would work for just about any dog.
So they told us to get rid of all remaining stock.

My dog food supplier had it pulled from their shelves on Saturday. Now I know why.

I'm amazed all those carrion-eating wolves, dingoes, and African wild dogs don't croak by the thousands. Maybe we've bred all the natural immunity out of our pampered lap dogs. Sort of like kids who live in a sanitized bubble and can't survive a scraped knee on the playground!

That about explains it

Agree...

I respect a company that would do this of their own accord.

Just hauled out a few bags to toss. This is the second time we’ve done this with Victor in the past year. Buds and I had been buying it by the pallet. No more. Time to move on.

I had a black lab about eight years old. Suddenly quit eating, drinking lots of water and urinating a lot. Dead in a few days. Happened at the same time Purina did a recall for excess vitamin D in some of their dog food.

Salmonella?? What a bunch of wussy dogs.

My dogs drag rotting carcasses back to the yard of all sorts. Fridge cleanout day is their favorite. Clabbered 2 month old buttermilk, moldy cheese, slimy lunchmeat, stale bread and donuts. 6 month old ‘crunchy’ freezer burnt ice cream.

Mmmm

We always say “ahh fuggit they got tonsils”

I like to buy those roasted chickens at the grocery store. When I was done with the chicken, I fed the scraps to the dog. About 2 pounds of fat, skin and bones. Dog gobbles up the whole carcass.

I was at the vet one day and mentioned to her about how my dog loved to eat chicken bones. She told me I better quit that, she said the dog will get a bone sideways in the guts, get an intestinal tear, and then it is surgery for $1700. Or else the dog will die of peritonitis, an unpleasant way to die. That my dog had eaten scraps from a dozen chickens and not been made sick, I was lucky.

I said to her, "Hell, wild dogs and wolves eat animal bones all the time."

She said the difference was, wolves are eating raw bones while humans feed dogs cooked bones, the cooked bones are more likely to fracture.

I have 2 dogs that run the farm but sleep in our house, so I don't give them many table scraps because they'll get the quick step and piss off the wife. Vet told me bones were OK as long as they were big and uncooked. They occasionally drag up deer bones though.

Thanks for posting.

I feed my dogs Victor Hi Pro Plus. They're about 3/4 through the last 50lb bag, so I guess I'll let them finish it up and check the "Best by" date on the next bag. Given the crap they put in their mouths, I wouldn't expect them to be susceptible to salmonella, but I'm no vet.

Looked over the weekend for Victor at the farm store and was informed of the recall. Going to go back to Purina as my dog doesn’t really have a preference. Too bad as I had good luck with their products.
