Just received my McMillan painted in their “Sonoran Transition camo”
Ordered the stock color based on the example on their website as well as pics from a campfire member’s rifle painted by McMillan in the same color scheme.
To say I’m disappointed is an understatement!….It looks nothing like the examples.🙁😡
I realize every stock is going to be painted a little different than the next when you’re airbrushing camo patterns but you would think for $700 a stock they could do better than this!
What think ye?
Should I ask for a do-over repaint on their dime?
1st pic is what I was expecting. 2nd pic is McMillan’s factory example. 3rd pic is what I received.
I would ask for a re-do, but I doubt that they'll do it for free.
This is the "new" McM, where there isn't anybody like Dick Davis to take care of customer service issues.
Your experience is just another straw on that camel with the broken back for me. I bought 70+ stocks from the "old" McM, but can't bring myself to buy anything from the "new" McM.
I’ve ordered 7 or 8 stocks from them over the years and have been pretty happy overall except for once when the fill weight wasn’t even close to correct. They just sent me what appeared to be an inventory stock with magnum fill when I asked for standard sporter fill and a custom LOP. The stock was embarrassingly heavy. That really ticked me off but they made it right.
I don’t like their somewhat sloppy recoil pad installation(glue spilled all over the pad) so I order them without and do the pads myself. That way I can fix the LOP to my liking and finish the pad neatly.
But, this is the first time I have not been happy with the paint. It’s just not even close…..I already have a brown McMillan, don’t need another one.😄
That camo pattern, if you can call it that, sucks. I’m talking about the stock you received. If they don’t repaint it for free, I’d tell them to pound sand and get someone else to paint it. I have quite a few McMillan stocks but stopped buying them about five years ago, cause of price and wait time.
