Percussion caps, if you can find them, ballpark 10 cents a piece.
I knew there was a reason I liked my rocklock.

There is a work around. A srp/spp will work with a wee bit of help from a cap keeper.
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.

I grabbed a couple tins of CCI’s a year or so ago and don’t remember them being quite that steep.

Bought one of these kits a while back. Punched out some caps out of aluminum beer cans and soft copper shim stock. Worked ok but I can see where it might work better with an arbor press or rig something up on a RockChucker instead of beating chit with a hammer. Haven't tried charging them yet though with priming compound. Some folks on the various muzzleloading forums around the net brag it up pretty good. Seems legit to me in theory. Don't see any reason why it won't make a good cap. https://22lrreloader.com/products/11-percussion-cap-maker

Question, ever get part of the anvil or anything stuck on or in the nipple?

You can buy 300 pieces pre cut on ebay for 15 bucks and the $$ goes to support some orphan dogs. I have bought and built.

Those work like a champ, and allow you to use BH209 in a sidelock, about as easy as it gets. Won’t save you any money, but provides another option for times like these. I even bought one for my PH 1858, but haven’t tried it yet. On a Renegade, I had quick, sure ignition with no issues at all for about 20 shots, and cleanup was a snap. I have almost five actual pounds of BH, so I don’t have to sweat that inflationary disaster. $10 an ounce or some such?
What fresh Hell is this?

How easy/fast are they to unscrew and replace a primer, especially with cold frozen fingers? Or am I viewing it incorrectly?
I use a Ted Cash capper with standard caps. Works like a charm.

I knew there was a reason I liked my rocklock. Ah, yep. Wow, what a concept....reuseable 'caps'....who'da thunk it. Gotta love the new technology eh?
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Yep, and you can gather your rocks out of the garden lot or a creek bed, which I personally don't, but in the right place, one certainly could. I grind my own priming powder too, so no worries about finding 4F somewhere. The only other thing to do, is make my own Holy Black if I absolutely needed to. Happy to report that that particular L&R lock above has never yet given me a misfire to contend with. Superb geometry and lock time.

Somewhere in my dusty books, I think I read that flintlocks continued to find majority favor among users on the frontier for similar reason. Took awhile for the new fangled ignition to catch on.

I use a Ted Cash capper with standard caps. Works like a charm. The pics I shared are super easy. I keep a few in my patch box in case of emergency but stick to the cash as well.....but I do have options.

But that rock sparker of yours is a beauty. Had a job on Powder Mill Pond. Was curious about the name. Stumbled onto this. Good read. Amazing how impressive the efforts were back in the day to keep the supply up. the Day the Mill blewThis talk was about the Hazardville operations. I’m sure the production out of Colt in Hartford and The Armory at Springfield kept both places busy. Hazard/Southwick powder
I used to only shoot shotguns and rimfires, then I made the mistake of getting a subscription to handloader.......
