After counting Savage 1899s for about 15 years in the 25-35/32-40/38-55 calibers I have an interesting statistic. Total of 479 guns in my data,
25-35 193 guns/ 29 are SRC
32-40 139 guns/ 15 are SRC
38-55 147 guns/ 9 are SRC
Probably not what collectors would have predicted. Perhaps skewed as guns recorded are often from collections and certain calibers are kept and hidden away for long periods of time.

It is interesting.
Is it because of how people viewed the cartridges at the time?
Was the 38-55 more of a target cartridge and less hunting? I believe the 25-35 was viewed as pretty much purely a hunting cartridge - and the SRC is a hunting rifle. And that's the highest percentage.
25-35 SRC percent - 15%
32-40 SRC percent - 10.8%
38-55 SRC percent - 6%

What value range would a 80-90% SRC carbine be in those cals. Even the 25-35 is extremely had to find esp with condition. GW

I only collected 25-35/32-40 and 38-55 data as they are the scarcest.

Hold your breath, I paid $2300 for my 1912 SRC in 30-30. Turned out it had been restored. Makes a DANG PRETTY hunting rifle.

Hold your breath, I paid $2300 for my 1912 SRC in 30-30. Turned out it had been restored. Makes a DANG PRETTY hunting rifle. i just paid $ 350.00 for another one in 30-30 thats 2 out of 5 others are 303, wuld love a 38-55. mine are not pristeen.

I sold an 38-55 SRC to member here after killing a bison with it.... it wasn't high quality but it was original which I was concerned about because after it arrived, the barrel was clearly marked 32-40 and overstamped 38-55... factory letter said it was 38-55... must have just been a factory mistake during stamping... kinda surprised it would be allowed to go out the door like that, but it was the early years (1909) of savage and maybe they couldn't justify scrapping a barrel or waiting for someone to order a 32-40 SRC?!?!?
