My grandson started hunting this year. He is 6.
His 4th hunt was yesterday.
He was using a Ruger Compact 7-08 that I bought his Mom about 22 years ago.

He and his Dad were invited to his uncle's deer camp because they needed to shoot 20 does.
So, they could shoot a doe, but not a buck.

2 does came out about 1 hour before dark.
He picked out the biggest one and shot.
His Dad videoed on cell phone.
The deer jumped straight up and ran 15 yards and fell dead.

My son-in-law was very impressed with the 7-08 with Nosler 140gr Accubonds.
I just told him "Your wife killed 2-3 deer every year as a child with that rifle and ammo. So, I'm not surprised."
And, my grandson was ecstatic. He wasn't so crazy when the blood was put on his face though.

he's got cousins that have killed 130 class bucks by age 7.
They are in really good camps, or have access to primo private land, though.
My son-in-law is not, nor am I. unfortunately.

1. We're in Mississippi.
2. Tyler sent me a video, but no pics yet. I will post 1 when he finally sends me one.

He's been shooting a Savage Lil Rascal 22 to get used to aiming/shooting since last January.
It became obvious he could easily hit a 3-4 inch target at 50-60 yards with a 22, so he earned his right to shoot a deer.

Starting them young is a good thing. Keep them going, and make it a normal and fun part of their lives. smile

Got my 11 yo nephew his first yesterday. He has been shooting for several years and outshoots his dad on the range. We had a small doe step out at 75 yards but he didn’t feel like he was steady enough and when he was she did give him a good shot angle. Proud of the way he thought it through, but that one walked out of sight. Told him not to worry another would be along. Ten minutes before the end of legal hours one stepped into a shooting lane just under 100 yards out and he was able to get a solid rest and put a 110 gr Barnes from a 300 blk through the lungs. She made it 10 yards. Loved it all till the work started.
