Bring $5’s and $20’s he says.

Stopped into a gas station on the way and bought a Snickers bar.

Jesus! I thought I’d bought five of em when I got change back!

LOL

Snickers bar was probably 1/2 ounce less weight than the last one you bought too

Sure do. That was also when the median family income was around $6000/year. Most families earn more than that/month now.

Story on the news about it the other night, seems it's reaching into many industries, not just foodstuffs

Soon, a "Family-size" box of Post Raisin Bran will have 6 ounces of cereal in a blown-up bag.

I remember 5 cent candy bars, but since I can remember Snickers were 10 cents. Back as far as 1955, it gets foggy past that.

the serving size will be cut to 1/2c so it seems to the non-smart folks there's still 12 servings per box

Yep....maybe!

Today's family earned less than $75k, 12 times what was earned in your example.

A Snickers can't be bought for 5 x 12=60 cents.
My wife just told me a small one is $1.89 at her c-store.
That is 31.5 times the example.

120,000 bars per year for the 5 cent example.

39,682 bars per year at today's prices.

No wonder they seem more expensive.

When I was kid, I loved to go to the general store in Moultonboro, NH, as it had the old glass cases with 50 or 60 different penny candy options available. Candy cigarettes, wax bottles of flavored sugar water, bullseyes, a dozen different licorice options, etc. You could buy a lot of different candies with a couple of quarters.

I can remember Snickers being .50cents in 7th grade.

Coach Willard would sell them after PE, in the locker room. Sit nudie-butt on the bench eatin a candy bar 1/2 period before the usual Peetsuh and Frys lunch. Mmmm. Oh yeah and a chocolate mrlk that smelled like cat pee on the outside of the carton.

Memories!!!

I also remember a "Lunch Bar" - thin candy bar in a green wrapper that went for 3 cents (as printed on the wrapper).

Candy bars, cokes, gum were all a nickle. 22 shorts were 35 cents a box. Go find 20 coke bottles and the store owner would lets me have a box of 22 shorts and a coke..... no tax or at least he didn't charge me any.

I did a little deer scouting in a different area today. On the way home I stopped for a burger at a place I use to stop at years ago. A small burger (looked like what they call sliders today) and a small order of fries (decent size) and a medium Pepsi. $11.74. Holy crap I could have stopped at a cafe and got a better meal cheaper. And it wasn't near as good as I remember them being.

What is one hour of your time worth in 2023?

Serious question... Cash money?

I never doubted that you were a slimy Phaggot, but now that you’re actively propositioning men here on the fire, it’s for all to see

Used to shoot with a group for quarters, my goal was to not lose money.

Poor bastards weren't very good, two had Anschutz rifles, good scopes and shot Federal Gold Match. My buddy shot a lot of open sight single shots, I used a 77/22 and Reminton Subsonics. The targets were 5 stingers out to about 50 yards, wit a tie breaker out farther. Off hand, no sling. Step back when you miss.

We rarely came home with less than we brought. Once we had the buy in covered,
we would often shoot at the rod welded to the swinger. That usually got me eliminated.

Sucks to get your ass beat.
Socks just as bad to dominate the competition.
Especially when you know it's not because you are great, but that they just suck.

Sure do. That was also when the median family income was around $6000/year. Most families earn more than that/month now.

Well JMR is a Libturd so alla that^^^^^ was wasted.

He was buying a Win 69A [22 rifle] at a pawn shop and he saw my name on the paperwork.

He said ha paid $200.
I have one last model 69a on consignment there. It cost me $150 at a different pawn shop in 2014
