I was invited to a .22 shoot last weekend.

Bring $5’s and $20’s he says.

Stopped into a gas station on the way and bought a Snickers bar.

Jesus! I thought I’d bought five of em when I got change back!

LOL

Screw you! I'm voting for Trump again!

Snickers bar was probably 1/2 ounce less weight than the last one you bought too

Sure do. That was also when the median family income was around $6000/year. Most families earn more than that/month now.

Story on the news about it the other night, seems it's reaching into many industries, not just foodstuffs

Soon, a "Family-size" box of Post Raisin Bran will have 6 ounces of cereal in a blown-up bag.

I remember 5 cent candy bars, but since I can remember Snickers were 10 cents. Back as far as 1955, it gets foggy past that.

the serving size will be cut to 1/2c so it seems to the non-smart folks there's still 12 servings per box

Yep....maybe!

Today's family earned less than $75k, 12 times what was earned in your example.

A Snickers can't be bought for 5 x 12=60 cents.
My wife just told me a small one is $1.89 at her c-store.
That is 31.5 times the example.

120,000 bars per year for the 5 cent example.

39,682 bars per year at today's prices.

No wonder they seem more expensive.

When I was kid, I loved to go to the general store in Moultonboro, NH, as it had the old glass cases with 50 or 60 different penny candy options available. Candy cigarettes, wax bottles of flavored sugar water, bullseyes, a dozen different licorice options, etc. You could buy a lot of different candies with a couple of quarters.

Remember a half gallon of ice cream? Somewhere along the way they slip in the 1.5 quart container when no one was looking.
