Does anyone have any good or negative experiences with a Winchester Model 70 Coyote?

I have an oppertunity to get an all matte finished blued one at a resonable price in 270 WSM. Is the Coyote much more accurate than the lighter rifles? Comments and opinions are appreciated.

I have but one experience to share

they make for cold & non responsive sleeping partners, but I slept with my brand new M70 coyote in 22-250 last night anyways.

FWIW, I spotted a NIB brown lam one piece bottom metal crpf M70 coyote in 25 wssm on monday for under 400 bucks!!!!!!

gander mountain in duluth, can't remember the exact price but it was between 350 & 400, wanting to say it was 349 but i could be wrong.

I thought hard about it befor dishing 449 out for the one i got in 22-250.

I have some Winchester/USRA 70 Coyotes chambered for the WSSMs. "Good" covers a wide range, but here is my take on the Winchester/USRA 70 Coyote in 25 WSSM. Heavy. The stock is much more of a varmint/target style than a carry/shot off-hand style. Did I mention that they are heavy?

If you are sitting in a prepared stand and shooting off a rest they are OK, but they are heavy. Certainly not a rifle that I would choose to still-hunt with if I had other, better, options.

that's why i didn't buy the 25, wasn't looking for a deer type caliber.

could be a good deal though for a 1/4 bore fan with a good comfy heated stand.

I'm shooting from a barn where the shots are frequently 200-350 yds. I only have to carry it 100 yds on a farm road.

I can't run around the woods and mountains any more due to balance issues from brain surgery last Feb.

As much as I love my custom 7x57...It's 19 inch barrel and light weight don't perform well for me past 200 yds. The round is good but it's platform isn't ideal for long range shooting.

A friend of mine has one in 300 WSM. He bought it for a moose hunt in British Columbia a few years back. He used it on a 300 pound wild boar as well. He loves it.

I have never understood the perceived need to make them weigh so much. Can someone help me out here? Thanks, John

I have two (223 & 22-250) Win Coyote's and both shoot about .75 to 1 inch 5-shot groups with factory ammo. I'd be a little more pleased if I could get them down to .5 - .625, but they are both relatively new and don't have that many rounds down the barrel. I think they'll come around with a little more time, particularily when I start working on handloads. They both show signs of coming around as they will typically print 3 shots in a cluster and I'll end up with two slightly out of the group.

Overall I'm very pleased with both. They weigh 10.5 lbs with scope so they are not carry rifles, but work great on stand. The 270 WSM should be a nice shooter for deer on stand.
