I'm a big fan of the 6 BR. Can be accurately down loaded to 223 levels, or run hot for long range work. Would love to have one in the Winchester 1885 configuration. Does the best way to get one require setting back a 243 barrel and rechambering? I think the forend is free floated so hopefully no milling required on the barrel.

i purchased a used custom Ruger #1 S.S.that had a new S.S. barrel chambered in a 6BR i put a target Nightforce scope on it this rifle really shoots well 2`s an3 `s easy my only problem with this Ruger #1 it has a slow twist and wished it was 1-8 twist but it sure likes 70 -80 gr. bullets so far. if i was you put a new barrel on this rifle either a Krieger or a Brux fast twist barrel, if your going to spend money do it all the way. good luck,Pete53

I always shoot my 6BR (trued 700 bolt gun) single shot anyway (extractor but no ejector) so why not a single shot action? Do you prefer the #1 action to the Browning-designed 1885 Low Wall? I'll have to admit, I'm quite infatuated with the 1885 action.

i own 2 other 6BR`S 1- Savage HB single made for FTR class , 1- BAT action left port-right bolt , switch barrel ,both are Brux barrels 6BR /6.5 Creedmoor with all the target gear 4 oz. trigger still have never put the new 6.5 Creedmoor barrel on this rifle .the 6 BR barrel is just so much funner to shoot and no recoil . this summer i purchased this used Ruger #1 6 BR the forearm has been rework and glass bedded with a Hicks forearm system ,has also a custom trigger in rifle ,but who ever did all the work never shot it much and it had a Simmons target scope that i took off right away rifle even had a picatinny scope base on this Ruger #1 6BR. i had a gunsmith add a 4 X6 inch inch plate on the bottom of the forearm ,that is removable so i could use my better bench rest equipment hopefully gain 1/10 of an inch accuracy at 100 yds. ,machined a new target 13 degree crown on barrel too. do i like the Ruger #1 yes because it has a very good safety system and no hammer to cock but is it a better system i don`t know ? i do like the ease of loading this single shot Ruger #1 over a bolt action yes . time will tell if it can shoot as well as my Bat action target rifle. I recently ended up without a 223 and was beginning to hunt for one but I discovered a 6BR load of 25.6 gr IMR 4198 with a 58 Vmax that clocked at 3350 fps, super low pressure, great accuracy. Furthermore, a Trail Boss load with the 58 Vmax at 2050 fps hits dead on at a 100 yd whereas the full power load with a 55 gr Nosler is zeroed for 280 yds without any scope adjustment between the two. This rifle is versatile and fun, especially with the Jewell trigger, suppressor.

I'll have to admit, I'm quite infatuated with the 1885 action. So am I. It’s a very fine and stylish rifle.

Sounds like a slick deal. I have not yet done a single shot 6BR - at least not on purpose. I had a short action 700 rebarreled to the 6BR, with an 8" twist Krieger. It shoots very well, and will easily drive 85-90gr bullets to 2900 fps. Absolutely, positively won't feed out of the magazine, though. So it sorta is a single shot
