I just bought a Winchester model 100 in .243 and the stock and barrel are in very good condition. The trigger guard is unfortunately very worn and missing about half the finish.
From what I can tell it's aluminum. I tried some alumablack and it didn't do well. I was wondering if anyone had tried aluma hyde ii?
I thought about anodizing it but i wasn't sure if the aluminum trigger guard could be easily removed from the rest of the assembly. It has some punch looking pins at the top but couldn't find any info on taking it off.
The trigger assembly on a 100 is not extremely complicated, but should not be tackled by a novice. Mask the mechanism off, degrease the trigger guard and give it a shot of Aluminahide (sp?). If you can handle the disassembly, gloss Duracoat or Ceracoat would be better.
If you pay close attention to what you're doing (if you need to, take a photo of the disassembly after each step so you can just do it in reverse to reassemble) removing the trigger guard isn't that bad. I've had good luck with aluma hyde, albeit not on my 100.
