Yes sir…..it’s a nice little cartridge! memtb Good for shooting jackrabbits. Don't have to lead them much if any at all, when they are on a full sprint.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Is the 300 weatherby considered a “big game” cartridge? Yes pard I did, just wanting to know what yall fudds think of the round, is it too much for the whitetail? I have two .300 Weatherby's. My late father's Mark 5 and a custom Winchester 70. For a New Mexico pronghorn at 400 yards using a factory loaded 165 ballistic tip it worked great. For a two or three year old Texas whitetail at 70 (ish) yards with the same bullet I let it walk. If I was holding a 7x57 instead of the .300 I would taken the shot. I think for a paid/guided hunt the .300 Magnum (any of them) is a great cartridge for extending distance or taking a marginal shot if that is the only shot you will get on that hunt. For local hunting I like using something smaller.

I use one for Whitetails. Most of them just drop out of the scope when I shoot. Had one run last week shot through both shoulders which was unusual.

They make great squirrel guns!

The 300 Weatherby has survived the test of time. It has been around for almost 80 years and brass and ammo is easy to find, although a little on the pricey side.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Would the 180 TTSX be adequate for some whitetail? I want the bang flops and no meat damage.

Really ? I saw an TTSX up close and they expand just as much as a cup and core. You could always step down to a lighter bullet especially if the advice of reducing the load.

If you shoot at 300 or more you should be good. But what happens if a nice deer steps out really close, then what ? I had a guy I knew shoot a mule deer at 50 yards, he said it looked like a murder scene, blood everywhere.
