Crying a$$ shame
Time before last at the ER I had nearly managed
to take a finger off and had to sit in a chair holding
my hand wrapped in a roll of paper towels and
a washrag with blood going drip-drip-drip-drip
on the floor between my feet.
I hollered at the nurse again and she responded by
bringing a handful of paper towels and threw
them on top of the puddle of blood and turned
on her heel and disappeared back into a secret
door.
Yeah, same as everyone else, medical staff tied
up treating anchor babies and shaniqua's with
sore throats and overdosed whigger punks.
They finally got to me and sewed my finger
strings and meat and skin back together
after scrubbing it all out with what felt like
the rusty wire brush I use on welds and a
half a gallon of betadine and salty lemon
juice.

I've been telling indifferent people for years
that even though they thought that they
lived hundreds of miles away from the
southern border and felt that it wasn't a
concern to them, that the day would come
that the infrastructure intended for citizens,
the infrastructure that was payed for with
the deductions from citizen's paychecks,
wouldn't be there for them because the
gubmint is giving it away to people that
never paid a dime into the system, and
could care less about the nation

ER about the same as going to casino.
You get 18 year old help at both.
Modern mafia is called the insurance company.
Try dealing with and shaking a terminal diagnosis by an 18 year old female ER Doc as you work through the medical system afterwards.
Really she was probably 25 and pretty.

My wife suffered a tib-fib fracture years ago. The hospital released her with the same splint the ambulance used. We had to get an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon to get real treatment. I would recommend everyone find a good orthopedic doctor and keep them on speed dials. Emergency rooms are for indigent care.

A few years ago, my wife spilled hot oil - receiving 3d degree burns down her right leg, from upper thigh to foot.
I took her to our local ER at "Hasta la Vista" (Alta Vista), and we spent nearly an hour waiting - while they took in tummy aches, etc.
No triage, no nurse, no hurry, nothing.
Loaded her up, drove to Santa Fe (~1 hour), she called to let them know the story.
They met us at the door with a wheelchair and took her back for treatment, while I did the paperwork.
Needless to say, we ignore Hasta la Vista to this day.
Presbyterian or St Vincent's in Santa Fe, or Holy Cross in Taos is our destination, anymore.
Those folks actually CARE.

It sure helps if you know someone working in the ER, I never had to wait when I took my Dad or when that damn dog chewed up my hands. My brother was one of the RNs working there.

Sorry for the OP and wife.

This is sad.

Someone said "she has chest pains". That will usually get some attention.

I've had to take my father in law several times this year, the local ER is hit and miss, either full of what appears to be drug withdrawal scammers or short, round and brown ladies with several kids. And always the black surly ones usually with several ignored kids and large attitudes. Some trips the place appeared empty.

Last trip with him we sat for 3 hrs with zero help. I got up went to the desk and told Shaniqa he was having trouble breathing and chest pains. They pretty much ran out and rolled him back.

The man had a giant kidney stone. I knew he was hurting bad but he would have sat there and waited until death if I hadn't given them the white lie. He has heart issues as well so it won't unreasonable to think the stress could cause symtoms.

Best E-Room advice...Don't ever walk in, go in an ambulance. Makes a world of difference of how quickly they treat you.

A couple of years ago I had a pain in my chest that I hadn’t felt before so my wife drove me to the ER. It was 10:00 or 1030 or so and we made every green light so it was quick. I walked up to the desk and told the nurse I was having some pains in my chest. I guess I said the magic word because her eyes got big and she said, “come with me”. My wife stayed at the desk to do the paperwork.

She took me to one of the partitioned areas, told me to put on a gown. Another nurse came in and told me that in a minute there were going to be about a dozen people in there doing all sorts of procedures so try to relax and just let them do their thing. She wasn’t kidding. Answering questions from both sides of the bed, getting hooked up, blood drawn, pulse/ox, etc.

After all was said and done, all the labs were good and the doc figured it was a spasm of some sort and he told me that if it happened again don’t be shy about coming back to the ER.

That got me on to the path to see a cardiologist who found an arrhythmia (tachycardia and PVCs) and a couple of pills solved the problem.

Yup, the magic words "I'm having chest pains" works every time.
I didn't realize it at the time, I had a heart attack at work while working out in the wellness center. Finished my workout, went home at the end of my shift. Got home, my wife got there an hour after I did. She said we're going to the hospital. I told her no, we both worked the evening shift. The last thing I want to do was spend eight hours waiting to be seen in the ER. So I went to bed, got a good night sleep. Woke up in the morning, showered and drove to the hospital. Ho lee fook, they couldn't get me to the back quickly enough. Probably a good thing, my LAD was blocked 100%
The RN who worked for my cardiologist had a few choices words for me when I went for my follow-up appointment after the open heart surgery... 😯

I was always told
Chest pain
Slurred speech/ sagging/shuffling
Severe burns

In order of priority.
Was I mis-informed?

When I had to go to the emergency room late last year, it helped speed things up quite a bit when I made clear that I was not looking for free medical care, that I had insurance and that I was in network with that hospital. Your mileage may vary.

I hate being the one who wins the most ridiculous story contest...
but, I do live in the land of fruits and nuts. There is a law in California that requires all healthcare entities with prescribing authority to provide temporary relief to drug addicts, Benzodiazapine, phenobarbital and Methadone by any other name, to anyone who is displaying severe withdrawal symptoms. So, with no ID, no healthcare insurance, no money...any addict can walk into the ER. And they do...whassamattuh bruh, got no cash for a bump? Go to the ER.
So if I understand this correctly, it was passed into law...to treat chronic drug addiction...you give druggies free drugs?

I asked my DIL, why'd you upgrade your RN to BSN? Answer, so I don't have to do ER rotation.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.
