Starting to think I need a a Model 70 FWT or Compact 7-08. hat are my choices? FWT, Compact, Winlite? I want CRF and FWTish stock profile. What would be a reasonable price point? I am cood with wood or fiberglass/tupper ware, factory or aftermarket stock.

Sounds like you are indecisive as to what you want exactly.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I think in current production 7mm-08 you'd be looking at an Extreme Weather or wood/blued featherweight....both good options.

BSA, not as indecisive as much as I am not sure what my options are. Not sure what was made in CRF in 7-08.

BSA, not as indecisive as much as I am not sure what my options are. Not sure what was made in CRF in 7-08. This is a classic featherweight I had. It was a beauty. Had it shot as well as my Tikka, I would have kept it. If going with a model 70, that would be one I'd look for. As handwerk said, you could also look for an extreme weather. A classic blued/walnut model is going to probably cost as much as the EW. They are beautiful rifles though. I didn't know if you needed one with a shorter stock, and shorter barrel, since you mentioned the classic compact model, but that would be one to look for too. However, they are very hard to find. That may be why handwerk suggested a new model???

I am cood with wood or fiberglass/tupper ware, factory or aftermarket stock. A wood stocked Featherweight is going to run from 900-1250'ish from what I see on the market lately for a Classic that is blued. FN 70 Featherweights are around 900-1000. SS Fwt's are mid 1500's or so, for nice one, unless you get lucky. Good luck with your search!

Is the Classic Compact the one with the Schnabel F/E? Classic or FN Compact have the same profile Featherweight stock, but a shorter length of pill of 13-13 1/4" I believe.

I've got one - NH Classic FWT blue/walnut in 7-08 Can hardly tell it's been fired. As close to 100% as one can get w/o having one in the box w/papers etc.. I'd let it go if you want a really, really good one..

Is the Classic Compact the one with the Schnabel F/E? They do have a schnabel forend. Like beretzs said, they have a shorter length of pull (around 13"). However, I do not believe they have the same exact profile/shape as the featherweight stock. I know the checkering panels are different. Looking more like what they put on the classic sporter wood stocks. I actually prefer the fwt stocks over the compact. Also, something that MikeS brought up in another thread regarding the classic compacts. They are not as deep in the belly as a featherweight, thus have slightly shorter mag boxes as well. As a result, they hold one less round than a fwt does. Hopefully that helps explain the compact stock. I put a 1" Pachmayr decelerator on this one, for 2 reasons. 1. To reduce recoil over the factory hard rubber. 2. To increase length of pull to around 13.5":

Just a little OT, choices are 120 gr Barnes TTSX, Hornady 139 gr Interlock, or 139 gr SST? Deer inside of 250 yards.

It's much like the 308w in that sense. You could even use 140gr TTSX and 150gr partitions or 150gr ELDX. Don't overthink the bullet aspect.
