I will either get 45 Colt or 357 Mag for the caliber. Which model and make wood you go with? I would like to have fancy wood that’s really my only requirement! Looking for some opinions. Thanks

I hear good things about the Winchesters. I own an Uberti 73 and can't say nothing bad about it. Very fun rifle to shoot. I went 45 Colt cuz I have six shooters that shoot 45 Colt. Shoot the same load in everything to make it easy peasy.

I'm pretty fond of my Uberti.

How is the wood? Is it a 73?

The usual red wood that most of the Italians have, it's a '73 in .45lc.

I'd get the '92 Winchester in .45 Colt or .44 Magnum. As far as wood goes both run about the same and getting nice grain is luck of the draw . My Marlin has probably $1500 dollars worth of wood on it if bought from a stock maker . Most of the Marlin LTD's had rather plain wood but mine has wood you would expect to see on a fine English Double gun. I got lucky because the other guns in the rack the day I bought were plain to say the least. Actually was looking for one in .44 but bought this .45 Colt because of the wood.

I would definitely go with an Italian. They have figured out to perfectly replicate the Winchester's and I've found their firearms to be of great quality.

Several years ago I bought an 1866 Uberti and it had the typical red finish. I stripped it and much to my amazement there was (is) a beautiful piece of wood underneath!



And on top of that, it's pretty danged accurate!

Lonesome Dove comes to mind with that steel plate. But ol Gus had a ladder sight…..
