Hi Friends.

Alliant RL17 is one of my favorite 30-06 and 6.55 Swede (new commercial swede action) powders but for the last few years the availability of RL17 is lousy, and the price is sky high.

With that said, I am going to choose an alternative powder to work up some 06' loads, and my inclination is to work with Ramshot Hunter. (very decent availability/price)

Your thoughts on this?

Merry Christmas!!

Mule Deer has some good loads for it in those cartridges.

According to Hodgen powder speed chart, A4350 and H4350 are closer in burn rate to R17 than Hunter.

I haven't seen any Ramshot Hunter for quite a few months now. I use it in 30-06 with 180gr Partition, Oryx, and Interlock bullets. I use magnum primers.

Hunter is a bit slower than RL-17. But it should work well with the cartridges you list using 130-140 grain bullets in the 6.5 and 180 grain in the 30-06.

Hunter powder works great for me in my 30-06 with 180 Nosler A/B and Barnes 168 T-tsx.

Good stuff.

I have also been looking for Hunter and its very hard to find in stores locally and on line, it would have to be from a private party.
