Hello all!
I bought a Savage Axis chambered in 308 to load plinking loads for, maybe even some cast bullets. When I have cycled the action and begin to close the bolt there is a very loud “click”. For those of you who have an Axis rifle does yours click as such? I’m thinking it can’t be normal but it’s my first Savage bolt rifle.
Thanks for any help!
Rick

Is it hitting mag follower?
Check scope base screws and action screws to make sure they are not hitting bolt

Have you lubed the bolt both at the handle where you can see the locking cam and at the bolt head it self. If these are dry they can make it harder to work the bolt and can make a clicking noise when closing the bolt on a new rifle.

You can find videos of Savage bolts and how to take them apart and put them together at a site called grimstod on you tube. He makes custom bolt lift kits for savages that work very well.
Type in grimstod bolt lift kit videos at utube, It's been awhile since i have been there so you may need to look around a bit.
