I can get a hell of a deal on one that is prolly 10yrs old never fired.

Who here has owned one? Pro's? Cons? Suggestions? Accurate?

Thanks

Shag,

Mine is a Mark II compact. It is one of the most handy rifles I own. It is just as good in a tree stand as it is hunting out West, if you keep your shots with in reason. Pros are light weight, handy, easy to carry, and no less accurate with ammo it likes than any other Ruger rifle. Cons are you lose a little speed with the short barrel and it can be a bit loud when shooting it due to the shorty barrel, and for bigger people the short length of pull can be an issue.

There is a reason why you never hear of anyone shooting a 308 winchester AI.... It can't be improved upon!! Molon Labe

Good little guns but I certainly echo the thoughts above... the blast is "Dang"

I always felt they were too butt heavy with the laminate stock but they would be pretty handy in a lighter stock.

Aren't the barrels relatively stout? Seems like a good candidate for a can.

This. I think mine is ideal for a box blind or tree stand, especially for a younger shooter, but a poor choice for fast offhand shots.

Chuck, just handled one last week. 12.5" stock is pretty short, 16.5 barrel. Balance is fine though.

I would want a 13" stock minimum for me.

They were asking $900.00 for it.

Had two M77 MKII compact SS with the 16.5” barrel. 223 and 243. Handy and swung nice in tight cover. A bit heavy for the size and an 18” barrel would have been better. Sold both without regret. Made a decent truck gun but there are better options.

I much prefer the 20” Ultralights.

Also, the very best finish of any rifle brand was Ruger’s “Target grey, subdued” stainless!!!

They should have Never stopped producing that excellent finish!!!

I am envious. I have 2 of the American compacts with the plastic stocks. I like the size of the compacts. I also like the laminated stocks. Nice rifle.

Don what caliber is that? Beautiful buck and rifle. I hear you but I'm stealing the rifle. I'll make out fat and possible trade stock for an ultralite.

Not a fan of 16” barrels unless it’s a lever or AR
Buy a 700 of any caliber you desire and chop it to 18-20”.

I have one in 7mm-08 and its a sweet shooter. Stout would be a Good description for it. I wish the barrel was 18" . The muzzle blast from the 16.5, especially at the range under a roof will get your attention. I plan on threading mine for a can once it gets out of jail

Owned one in the 308 compact laminate stainless barrel and action. Super handy light rifle. It is balanced more to the butt stock and has a thinner profile barrel. Does have a shorter length of pull I used it in the winter when wearing more gear and it worked great. Barrel does heat up quickly being a lighter profile but was very accurate until heated up after three shots usually
