All:

I have been presented with a mint Winchester Ranger in 30-30 for purchase. Looks a lot like a 94 to me. Maybe it is. It doesn’t have the cross safety like I have seen in the past so I am assuming it is an older version than those. It is drilled and tapped on top of the receiver for scope mounts. Screws still in the holes. Wood is fairly plain, but not bleach blonde horrible. $500.

Was the Ranger an economy version of the 94? Was the function or quality of the rifle any different than others made in that timeframe? If I was in the market for a 30-30, I might consider it considering Marlins are pretty high now.

Off of memory, they were made in the early 80's as a more affordable version. Mechanically the same, but had Birch instead of walnut and the finish wasn't a high luster. Again, off memory, Winchester offered a Ranger 120 and model 70 Ranger (birch, bling mag and Williams sights) around the same timeframe as affordable options.

I am always looking for factory wood stocks!
