Don't think anyone has mentioned the 139 Scenar. A tough bullet that kills quick and tends to exit with big holes.

The 140 is not needed. I have killed LOTS of deer, from close to over 400 yards with both creeds and .260s. The 129 Interlock and the 147 ELDM are my favorite bullets. With the relatively mild velocities, the expensive premium bullets are not needed.

I have killed them with 130gr and 140gr ELD-M's they get the job done. Only had one 130gr ELD-M not pass through. Shoulder shot. But Bang flop dead in its tracks.

The 139 Scenar is a fine choice. Nice exit with good blood if you need to track one. I tend to shoot high shoulder and drop them where they stand.

I'm gonna go to the range in a few days and shoot some 147's to see if my gun likes em, Maybe shoot the next deer with one of those for a comparison.

I have killed nearly 2 dozen deer and pronghorn with plain jane cup and core bullets - they work.
6.5 Grendel, 6.5 Roberts, 6.5x47 Lapua, 260, 6.5x55, 6.5-06 and 264 WM. 120 Bal Tip, 120 Speer, 120 Rem, 120 Sierra Pro Hunter, 129 Interlock, 139 PMC, 140 Rem(pre Core-Lokt) - they all worked. Don't sweat the bullet - put it where it needs to go. I usually do lung shots and they may take a step or 2. The Grendel was a neck shot with a 120 Bal Tip

Any of those bullets stand out as having consistent exits from the mid 6.5s. That’s what I’m really looking for without going to the monos.

Thanks.

129 Hornady and 140 Corelokt have both reliably given exits from my .260. The only 129 that didn’t exit was hard quarter towards me. I hit the point of the right shoulder, it drove into the guts. It didn’t exit but the deer only made it about 30yds.

Your choice of bullet, the 140 gr interlocks, would be a very good choice given your criteria, no need for premium bullets.
The interlock has served my needs in several calibers as its designed for game with minimal meat damage.
My wife/kids shoot a 129 gr interlock that kills like lighting...two bucks this year never took a step. DRT
I've used others but at the price/ availability it's definitely the easy button.

Remington280, Did your wife get exits with the 129gr Interlocks?

Thanks.

The buck my wife shot was a perfect double lunger that did exit but my daughter's buck was a frontal shot that didn't exit as expected.

Having a great year, my wife put another nice buck down with the 129 gr interlock.

I settled on the 139 Scenar for everything. It is the most accurate bullet I've tried and I've seen enough dead animals posted here from Scenar's to trust it on game. They are reasonably priced as well.

I've never recovered a 6.5 bullet. In fact, the only bullet I ever recovered was a Horn 190 gr from my 300 Wby, in an elk. I did shoot a pig with a 240gr JHP (Rem or Nosler, I think), There was no exit wound and as much as I dug, I couldn't find the bullet.

I will second the 130 AB. Has worked well for me in the 260rem. One shot kills with exits from 50ft to 285yds.

[EDIT - or the 136 Scenar L]

This is the second deer killed with 139 Scenars....I'm guessing big exit holes are normal.

120gr Rem Corelokts would be my first choice. They work everytime but may be hard to find as components.

I rarely have shot a deer with a 129 IL that it did not exit. From close to over 400 yards, they have performed well. I shoot them primarily in my 260 and with a bit more velocity, so they should even be better in the Creed. I primarily use the 147 in the Creed, with the same results.

140 rem core locts 100% exit. 140 Speer 100 % exit. 153 privi partisan 100% exit.
260 rem at 2650-2700 fps

All bought on sale at the time in bulk.

6.5 is the easy button

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.
