Any expanding bullet, combined with high velocity can ruin a lot of meat. I agree 100%, and that's another reason why bullet placement is so improtant.
To my mind, the Weatherbys will always be Trophy hunting tools. If you want a Meat gun, get a boring, dull, uninteresting but accurate 308, load it with tough, heavy-ish bullets and go forth and fill a reefer truck. Yes, my .300 Wby is a great Trophy hunting tool, since I bought it in 209 it's put 18 mounts in my Trophy Room, but it has also kept my freezer full of delicious wild game meat throught that same time period.
But if it was only about groceries, you could sell the Weatherby and stock up on hamburger. The first elk that I shot with my .300 Wby cost me a total of $12 for a Montana resident geezer license and $1 for the bullet. Just the 10% beef fat that I bought to grind into my burger cost was the most expensive part of that hunt. That gave me half a freezer full of elk meat and another set of elk antlers to hang on the trusses in my garage.

This thread has me jazzed up, lol. A month ago Weatherby had a decent sale on their web site so I ordered a lefty Mark V in 300 Wby. A month later with no shipping date in sight Weatherby agreed to refund my money. Said they had a software issue and it slowed down the shipping.
Found a dealer who has a lefty Mark V Backcountry in 300 Wby in stock so ordered it instead. I hunted a lot with various 300 mags (300 Win, 300 WSM, .308 Norma) when I lived in Alaska and frankly just don't understand how I avoided owning a 300 Wby. I came close once. Purchased a Rem 700 in 7mm mag and sent it off to have it rechambered in 7mm/300 Wby. That thing was a tack driver and shot flat as a laser. Sighted in 3 inches high at 100 yards with 175 gr bullets. Moved target back to 200 and shot 3 more, then moved target to 300 and shot 3 more. All 9 hits fit into a 5 inch circle.
I look forward to learning more about the 300 Wby.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

THIS WILL DO FOR EVERYTHING. Fotis, what's your barrel length? That's a nice mild load.

Slowest powder I currently have is IMR 4831. I have a decent supply of Barnes 180 TTSX’s and Fed 215’s and REM 9 1/2 M’s. Have to start somewhere so will need to buy a 8 pound jug of powder. What powder holds the best chance of success for my incoming rifle and the Barnes bullets?

Probably a higher than normal chance 7828 will work.

I get MOA or slightly better with 83 grs of IMR7828ssc and the 180 TTSX. 3190 fps. Shot a Nilgai with this load last week. MK 5 26" barrel.
RL22 has worked for me too with 180 TSX and 200 Nosler BT. The 180 TSX went clear thru both shoulders of a Bull Elk. Left one petal inside the offside hide.

Managed to find a 8 pound jug of IMR 7828 SSC so it followed me home today ($379).

For a good plinking load to try is a 155 Scenar over 71-72 grains of IMR 4064. Shoots nice tiny groups at 3300 fps in my 24inch Vanguard.
