For storage a soft case is fine, but I prefer a hard case for any travel, even in vehicles.
Boyt are good, just not super padded. The Midway USA heavy duty soft cases are very well padded and should work fine for vehicle transportation, etc. as long as nothing is put on top of the case.

I have 2 of these and absolutely love them. Pricey but you will be glad you spent a little extra money. This will handle long barrels and large scopes with turrets. https://www.outfitterssupply.com/Tr...Saddles_ATVs/productinfo/WSC147/#reviews

I have several padded cases for my rifles transported in my truck. However I have a Koplin gun boat for transporting my rifle from my truck to my stand on the ATV. It has a soft padded kase thjat fitd into the hard case which mounts onto the ATV.

What’s the standard now for a zip up gun case for rifle with scope? Boyt? Want a REAL zipper durable and affordable Thanks A couple years ago I bought a Cabela's Deluxe Waxed Canvas Leather Rifle Case. It's a classic waxed case with full length zipper and straps that go fully around the case and support it from underneath as oppose to being just sewn into the sides. I found it to be well made with a good full length zipper. You might be able to get a better case but you'd pay a lot more for it. I liked it so much, I bought another. https://www.cabelas.ca/product/124599/cabelas-deluxe-waxed-canvas-leather-rifle-case

My main soft cases are three Boyt's with metal zippers. So far, they've been just what I wanted / needed. The rest of my cases are a mixture of sleeves and cheaper zip cases that used guns were shipped to my FFL in by the seller. That's why one of them is bright pink.
The rest of them are hard Nanuk & Negrini cases.

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, Harbor Freight has a Pelican clone, the Apache, that is very good.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

Yep, the HF is a pretty good looking unit.
For a soft case I'm big on Ace Case. Used to buy them at gun shows years ago & they've served me well. Needed another size & ordered one last year. The quality seems to be as good as ever. Black, heavy cordura, many sizes.

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, Harbor Freight has a Pelican clone, the Apache, that is very good. I have a couple of the HF and love them. Though I did purchase replacement high density foam (Amazon) to replace the crap which comes in most gun cases. But that does not answer the question posed in the OP.
