Question...For a free bump?

How do these Rem 1st gen Ti action compare with the custom actions out there made on the Rem 700 footprint?

Just wondering as I've got a 1st gen .270W at Kampfeld getting rebarreled.

Not to derail the thread-- I acquired an all original Gen 1 .270w this summer, first trip to the range will be next week. I did do some chamber measurements and compared it to a custom built .270w (saami reamer)-- the chamber tolerances were very loose and it was throated .175" longer (likely due to runout). That said-- I've heard and many claim the Gen1 rifles are shooters. Will report back soon--

Free bump!

Supposedly favorably. I’ve never learned precisely who made them for big green but I do know it was a machine shop in Ohio who also did aerospace work. They are reputed to be very true.

The word on the street is Smith Wesson built the 1st Gen Ti actions for Remington. Every one I've owned had very clean machining and built very well.

What I have often heard as well; but I think the word was wrong. I spoke with a guy who had worked for Remington during that era, and he told me it was not Smith and Wesson, but a machine shop in Ohio. Also, Dave Tooley wrote in another forum they were machined somewhere near Cincinnati.

If anyone knows for certain; I’d love to know.

Thanks for clearing that up Joe...made sense since S&W built some Ti revolvers. I know titanium is not easy to work with and takes special equipment and tooling. Someone has to know out there who built them for Rem.

If someone knows David, they could ask him. He may well remember.
