There's one of those around here somewhere, but I only see it maybe once a year at a certain local car show every June. It's mint and fire engine red and every year when I see it, I think of my dad. He never owned one of those but early in his marriage, before the kids came along, he and mom were both working full time and raking in the money. Dad told me that in 1949 he was planning and saving to buy his first new car the following year. He wanted to get a new Olds convertible, and he even told me he wanted to get a red one. Until mom got pregnant with me, and then the new car idea got put on hold and he never did get a new car until 1962, which was 4 kids later when he bought a new 1962 Chevy II station wagon.

My mother's cousin was an ATF agent in SW Virginia & NC in the late 40s and through the 50s. She said despite that most of the family still liked him ok. He said Fords were probably the most used car by the moonshine drivers but in his opinion when Olds put their new overhead valve engine in the lighter "Rocket 88" it was the fastest car out there and in his opinion the best looking.
funny, I watched a This Old Car episode on youtube today about the Delta 88, so I looked on facebook marketplace for Delta 88's . Lots of 70's and 80's era, but this one popped up too
and that is still listed for Sale?
Said it has been listed for 13 weeks, and still available for just 10 grand?
You'd think someone would have snagged that one! Rusted out floor pan maybe?

Could that be the 303 cu. in. Olds V-8? I know that was what the 1953 Oldsmobiles had. I also have pics here on the computer of that mint, red 1950 Olds ragtop taken at the aforementioned car show. If this web site wasn't such a PITA for dinosaurs like me to post pictures on, I'd put 'em up right now.
