If you polled actual songwriters about their favorite I think Guy Clark would win. Some other good ones I did not see mentioned are Chris Knight, Hayes Carll, Delbert McClinton, Nanci Griffith, Cody Cannon (Whiskey Myers) and Evan Felker (Turnpike Troubadours)
