The "F" prefix indicates a 1975 production.
2-7x Vari-X II scopes back then would have had 28mm objectives.

Leupold says the objective is a 33mm They weren't in 1975. The change to 33mm happened somewhere between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s. I have a 1980 2-7x28 with an "L" prefix. My earliest Vari-X II with a 33mm objective has a 1995 "C" suffix.

I donβt know one digit of any scope I have lol And quite honestly, I had emergency brain surgery 4 years ago and would never remember anyway if I looked. I make sure they are sighted in, and I go hunting. Or to the range. Iβm boring like that lol!!

No offense but I think Leupold knows what they are talking about , and can we leave it to rest . No disrespect intended, but the fact is that a Leupold Vari-X II with an "L" serial number prefix was made in 1975 and will have a 28mm objective. Leupold changed the objective diameter from 28mm to 33mm several years after 1975. I have several 2-7x Vari-X II scopes, the earlier ones have 28mm objectives and the later ones have 33mm objectives.

No offense but I think Leupold knows what they are talking about , and can we leave it to rest . The Vari-X II 2-7 was originally a 28mm objective, then in the mid-late 80βs Leupold increased the objective lens size to 33mm. I have both. 260Rem has it right.

No offense but this post is confusing... the title says VX-II, but it's a Vari-x II by the serial number.
I have both the vari-x compact and the vari-x II. The compact is just under 10 in long and 8,2 ounces... the II is 11 inches long and 10.5 ounces.
The compact ocular and objective are 28, While the II ocular is about 33, the objective is still 28. I've seen this mistakenly called a 2-7x33 on ebay and other sites.
Without a picture it's a guess what you have. Is the ocular bigger than the objective? Is it 11 inches?
Here's a picture of both, my vari-x II is a J so the next few years from yours.
Hope this helps.

Misrepresenting the particulars of an item for sale (unintentionally or otherwise) can lead to a Classic Campfire Classifieds Wreck. Iβve seen it with me own eyesβ¦β¦ Apparently you havenβt been around enough.

Thanks MRK , Please disregard what 260 Rem Guy has to say others here on the fire say he is a know it all pain in the ass . As noted previously, no disrespect was intended. The facts are the facts, so if your scope has the serial number that you posted it was made in 1975 and all 1975 vintage Leupold 2-7x scopes had 28mm objectives. It is an indisputable fact, not an opinion or an interpretation, a fact. Unless you were purposely misrepresenting your scope, I don't understand why you are upset by my correction. If some people are annoyed because I share my actual experience with a lot of different shooting sports gear, I'll just have to live with that burden. I try to live my life by THE GOLDEN RULE, treating other people as I would like to be treated, with respect and courtesy.

I'm trying to help the OP sell his scope. If the scope is a 1975 Vari-x II 2x7, it is desirable to a target audience, someone looking for a 50 yo period correct scope to match a specific rifle. Not someone looking to scope their new Ruger american.
The VX II in the title lost a lot of potential buyers, it's a 20 yo scope, didn't open the thread.
The 70s era scopes in 2x7 had 2 models, Vari-x Compact and Vari-x II, that's how they will be marked.
The difference in size is shown in my picture, and someone wants one or the other for a specific rifle or mount.
Knowing what your size of objective lens is helps when ordering caps.

This is what happens when you post with no pictures. Pictures should be mandatory and if you don't know how to do it there is no reason to be selling on here.

I donβt know one digit of any scope I have me either. Regardless, TTT for nice scopes! Leupold doesn't make gloss scopes anymore and they are a fine product!! Someone please buy these. I would, but I just bought a VX-IIc 2-7x33 gloss scope.

I give up... removed the picture, I don't want someone thinking it was of the scope offered for sale.
