This topic may have been brought up in the past, but is there anything that can be done to improve the quality of the trigger pull on a Model 88 Winchester.

Maybe there is a gunsmith out there that has experience or is willing to take this on.

Thanks.

I was talking with Neil jones about the trigger work he was doing on a BLR of mine.

I believe he stated he also worked on 88 triggers.

I have had two gunsmiths tell me there is not much you can do with the trigger on a Model 88 Winchester. I have one and I love the gun, have taken many deer and hogs with it but I hate the trigger.

Not much can be done. I took m 1964 one apart and smoothed all the surfaces so the action is smoother, but still could not lighten the trigger pull IIRC, and may be wrong but, it is the way the spring that drives the firing pin also serves another function. My memory lacks the capability to recall what that is.

Like my model 88 for hunting but not so much at the range . It's hard to jerk the trigger at just the right moment consistently.
Also hard to reload for when you can't get a tight group because of the trigger. Heard there were gunsmiths of days gone by
that could help. Wish someone new would master the job again and let us know. smile

I had Rogue River work on my Mod 88 trigger about 20 years ago. It consistently breaks at 4 lbs. every time (a bit mushy still, but nothing like the ones that haven't been worked on or as heavy.) So, there is something that can be done, but Rogue River is out of business I hear.
