I'll be crossing the border tomorrow at the Falcon Dam crossing. Whitetail deer hunt. Wish me luck!

Are you taking your own rifle, or using one that they provide?

I used to have a deer lease in Nuevo León, back almost 25 yrs ago. We used our own rifles, but we had papers for each rifle, and carried only cartridges allowed for each. Driving our own vehicles, we were stopped by the Federales fairly regularly, typically at "check points." I never had a problem with them, though. Just said "soy cazador," showed them papers and the rifle and the ammunition. Usually offered them a cold beverage.

There were big deer on that lease! No hogs anywhere, but the red-winged black birds would often swarm in at our feeders by the hundreds and gobble up every kernel of corn.

Nowadays, though, I believe I'd feel a bit more anxious driving my own vehicle into Mexico, with or without a firearm.

Good luck! Hope you see some big ones.

If you hunt in Mexico, you are participating with the cartels. Same if you and the wife go to a resort.

That's for sure.

Some days down there can be risky.

Back from Mexico. No worries/bothers from the cartel. Outfitter says they don't mess with the Americans down there. He says they only mess with Mexicans and the immigrants trying to sneak into the US. 3 of 4 hunters killed bucks. Saw a lot of deer. My buddy killed a giant. I was expecting to kill a bigger buck than I did but it is what it is. I also saw Javalina, a few coyotes and a bobcat. Didn't shoot any of those as I didn't want to ruin any of my hunts and I didn't shoot my buck until the last day. The accommodations and food definitely left something to be desired but maybe that is to be expected in Mexico?? I have posted a few pics. I'm the fat guy lol.

We took our own rifles and we drove our own trucks. Outfitter had gun permits and paperwork done before we got there so it wasn't bad crossing boarder. We did have to account for the amount of rounds we brought across the boarder. We did not get stopped or hassled by anyone once we crossed the boarder. I did not see any hogs but my buddy killed one. Another buddy killed 2 Javalina. I saw a bunch of them but didn't shoot any as I didn't want to chance messing up my hunt.

Kinda sounds like a schitty hunt. Smaller deer than expected, schitty food. That sucks. Sorry to hear it. Not worth the risk of traveling to that schithole.

Are those categorized as Texas whitetailed deer in the part of Mexico you hunted in?
