It is time for me to get a new computer. I was wondering if I should move up to a Mac. Those of you who have a Mac do you have virus protection on it? Years ago I heard that you don't need it but I would think the hackers would try and get into the Mac. I know the Mac is a smaller market but there are still a lot of Mac out there.

This is what I did - HP Victus

Intel Core i7-13700 Processor
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Graphics
64GB RAM
4TB SSD
1TB HDD
Wi-Fi 6

Out of the box, macOS is considered to be marginally more virus adverse than Windows. But if you are running a good antivirus software and dumping Internet tracking cookies you are equally protected as you can reasonably be. But the idea of security and anonymity in the interwebs is a fallacy.

Maybe you just need a keyboard. I see the "c" key isn't working.

LOL

I see I missed the C on computer. The bigger problem is that the hinges are broke on my laptop and the computer is in two pieces. I have the computer hooked up to a screen and use and plug in keyboard.

I can't speak to MAC, but do consider getting a factory refurbished business unit from an outlet like Woot! or NewEgg. They usually come with a warranty and you get a like-new machine for about half the original price.

What do you use a computer to do?

I run my small business and do most of my day job things on my S23 phone

iPad will do the 99% internet no problem.

There are word and excel apps.

Not sure how useful they are.

I recently upgraded my business computers.

The really zippy one is MINISFORUM Mini PC UM780 XTX, with AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU. It's about 4"x4"x2 1/2", and it does everything my big old zippy tower computer does, and does it faster. This computer sometines gets used for intensive image and video processing. It set me back about $600.

The garden variety computer is AskHand Mini PC, with AMD Ryzen 5 5600H 6 Core 12 Threads CPU. It's also about 4"x4"x2 1/2". It's more than enough for doing Word and Excel. It's a pretty zippy little machine. It set me back about $350.

Both items are available on Amazon.

I really like the small form factor. It's small enough that you can hang a computer on the back of your monitor.

Instead of paying for MS Office, download LibreOffice. It' a full office suite fully compatible with MS formats - you can even save documents in them - and is totally free. Commands and layout are very similar, so the learning curve is short. I've used nothing else for over a decade now.

Been running Macs of various stripes for the last 35 years. For business, x-ray analysis, and personal. While I have no particular love for Apple Corp, I haven't found anything that tempts me to switch.

Oh yeah, never a virus problem.
