Lots of good comes from this place. With it you learn that many of us are just big old kids. And some act like children.

One guy said when he cleans a deer he splits hide down front and the back. Down back side is easy, don’t have to worry about guts. The two halves come off so easy it unreal. I don’t take guts out anyway.

Tremendous reloading knowledge base that helped fine tune my process. Lots of good folks here. Just need to have thick skin and not get butthurt or sucked into online arguments.

I learned what would have taken a lifetime of sitting around listening to the stories told by the old gaffers around the woodstove at the country store.

Things like:

Reloading tips and tricks.
Just cause the Lyman, RCBS, and lee don't say it will work doesn't mean it will kill you... Though it might...

The secret life of sockpuppets.

There be trolls hiding in the corners....

The 6.5 creedmore is the pole upon which the pride flag flies...

There are some life lessons on here, if you filter out some of the background noise. You could enroll in a Dale Carnegie course...or...you could monitor the campfire and soon decide...I want to be more like that guy...or, do I sound like that guy, whom I do not want to be.

And then there are the pet loads and technical discussions.
Some claim that every rifle is unique unto itself...but if you take your time and peruse the campfire pet loads...note a given load, and see it mentioned 2 or 3 more times by different riflemen? Take it to the bank, that is the best place to start with your rifle. Some manuals, list good loads, but more often than not reading the fine print it's a universal receiver and an unrealistic bbl length. Some manuals listing 'most accurate load', I suspect, base that finding on low extreme spread...not on actual group sizes. It's a treasure trove...just takes a little reading to dig it up.
As regards the societal and political discussions...there are a lot of old guys on here whom after three of four economic train wrecks, endless wars (many have served in them), divorces, good children, bad children...have very finely tuned bullschidt detectors, and these old boomer f...ks can smell rotten cheese in Denmark clear from Podunk Kansas. Well worth reading their opinions.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Actually, there is a lot of collective knowledge on these fora. Some use what little they have to belittle others, but most share willingly.

Hunting tips, hand loading tips, shooting tips, and muzzleloader tips and techniques.
The easy way to get out a stuck cleaning jag by shooting it into a sandbox with a small charge of powder, 700’Remington bolt assembly.
Not to mention automotive stuff.
Many times I’ll start a thread about history that I know very well, and until it’s all said and done, I find more information that I hadn’t known.
There are some really well read and knowledgeable people, and they’re a pleasure to chew the fat with, because you always learn things.
