DEI sucks. When you are a normal white male that is smart and productive, It sucks to have to be passed over and supervised by lesser employees so a corporate box can be checked. It discourages good some good employees from being their best.

Elon Musk is dead right: Boeing’s insane commitment to DEI could literally kill people.
“People will die due to DEI,” he thundered on X.
The tech titan was slamming the aeronautics firm after one of its planes blew a fuselage panel out in midair, with a tragic disaster only narrowly averted.
Specifically, he pointed out that Boeing in 2022 began rewarding execs financially for hitting climate and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion targets — shifting sole focus away from safety and quality, where it had been before.
“Do you want to fly in an airplane where they prioritized DEI hiring over your safety?” Musk asked.
And he’s not even exaggerating.
Per a 2023 report from Boeing, “Our goal was to achieve diverse interview slates for at least 90% of manager and executive openings” — with an actual “92% of interview slates being diverse, resulting in 47% diverse hires.”
Yep: People responsible for making sure your plane doesn’t crash are now officially less concerned about getting the best person for the job than checking various woke corporate identity boxes.
Such thinking is bad enough when financial firms do it under the guise of ESG, “environmental, social and governance” rules for investing.
But when that goes badly, investors merely take a loss.
With Boeing — as we may have just seen in the Alaska Airlines near-disaster — the results are much worse and more concrete.
Enough is enough. Boeing and every other firm whose product or service means the difference between life and death need to get back to basics and give up on the whole ugly DEI charade. Couple this with DEI hires in the cockpit. And DEI hires in the control tower.
Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.

Having great people that meet DEI requirements is a lot different than picking people to meet DEI requirements!!! My point is that is not that hard to meet both. Yes, it is.

Many of the best people I've ever worked with would meet the requirements DEI. Thats not the point of what anyone has said or is saying. That A can be B is moot. That people are selecting because of A and not with the specific goal of B is the point.
Quit giving in inch by inch then looking back to lament the mile behind ya and wonder how to preserve those few feet left in front of ya. They'll never stop until they're stopped. That's a fact.

Cargo doors blew out of DC10s long before DEI was a thing. Faulty engineering or sloppy work and QC would be my guess.

Management is just looking for an excuse if they are blaming DEI. So which do you supposed is prioritized? I think you are being a bit naive with regards to the hiring rubric and the realistic outcome.

Rocky: If you don't have status with Alaska or Oneworld and you book fares other than Saver class, you'll have the option to select seats in the main cabin for free — or pay extra for preferred or premium seats, such as an exit row or in Alaska's premium class. Kinda like paying extra for a convertible. You should pay extra for a chance to log flight time as a passenger. At least for a moment or two.

We have to ask: Why were the two seats adjacent to that door unoccupied? Did somebody know something? Pure coincidence? They cost more because they have better leg room. I like them myself- aisle seat. Well, I did.... Maybe w&b too.
