Buddy and I out bumming around some gun shops yesterday. Notice a nice looking 1911 in 45acp in the showcase. It was a Taurus 1911 commander model. Checked it out and I have to say I was somewhat impressed. Never been a Taurus guy but that pistol was pretty dang nice. Especially for 650.00.

The only kick I would have with it is the grip safety was definitely in working order. I had to make sure to grip it secure or it wouldn't release the trigger.

Yes, I had my left thumb in between the hammer and FP as I dry fired it. Also, the trigger was surprisingly good.

It was hard to leave without that gun, but I managed to do it. May not be so easy next wknd.

Was this one an anomaly or has Taurus stepped up their game?

I don't own one, but I likely will. Here is the price and more importantly the reviews for it on Buds Gun Shop - click here

Accuracy seems to be around 2.75 inches at 25 yards from what I've read. If I were to get one, it would probably be for my Son who would like to learn more about the inner workings of a 1911 without tearing into my more expensive 1911's. Also we could try out our hand a a few minor customizations. Hope this helps.

If price and options are comparable I would look at what Tisas has to offer.

The Tisas Tank Commander looks good on paper. Tisas claims no MIM parts. Forgings and billet steel mostly. Saw some online reviews that suggested triggers could need work, pull 5-7 lbf.

I have no experience with Taurus 1911. But do own a 445 Titanium 2 inch 44spc and 9mm G3C. Both have been reliable and accurate considering they are short bbls.

Long ago I owned a Taurus mod669, 6 inch 357. Functioned and shot aok.

If your price point shopping Taurus should be considered.

Not really price point shopping. Heck I wasn’t even looking for a 45. I just seen it and it winked @ me.

With that being said I’m definitely not opposed to buying one either. It just seemed like a lot of 1911 for the money. It just seemed like a nice 1911 for the money. I’ll check Buds.

A friend ask me to look @ a Llama 45 that one of his friends gave him. Doc said you can’t hit the back door with that thing!
I put a much better barrel bushing in it and now I believe he can at least defend his castle with it lol. The Taurus was head and shoulders above the Llama. I've never cared for them anyway.

This is the Tauras. @ 529.00 cash it is even more attractive to me.

Taurus is a solid gun. Much better today than 20 years ago.

If you like it, don't find anything obviously wrong with it, & the price is fair, then buy it. Because it says Taurus on the rollmark is not a hindrance.

I don't know what they currently use for magazines, but Wilson, Tripp & McCormick are readily available & have been known to solve some guns feeding problems, if the one(s) that come with it become an issue.

I bought one of the full size stainless PT1911's when they came out about 15 years ago. It has performed excellently and shoots whatever I feed it. It is also extremely accurate. I can't say enough good things about it. I had 2 friends that bought them too except they bought the "blued" models (more like parkerizing) and the only complaint they had was the finish was rather thin and would wear quickly. Theirs shot as well and as accurately as mine.

Bottom line is that Taurus has has some QC issues and some of their exterior finishes are cheap but they do make some solid guns, and the 1911's are some of the best (IMHO).

It seems that it's all steel (weight 38 oz), so it's a Combat Commander clone.

I have a Tisas Tank Commander in 9mm, it has a good trigger, under 4lbs. Not a bad shooter, either. It's an excellent little pistol.

What is up with the colors Taurus chose? Looks like a 1970's family room with the drapes used for the grips.

Maybe they'll offer a Colt SAA clone with a digicam pattern too.

I've got a full size 1911 Taurus and love it. For a "cheap" gun, I'm impressed.
