Saw that the Howa Superlite is available with a wood stock for less than $600 at several dealers. Anyone seen one of these in person? Or any reviews or feedback out there of this particular model? I have read that there have been stock issues but can’t find much info about it.

I had posted about my stock cracking in the rear tang after 5 rounds this past summer. I contacted Legacy Sports and was sent a new stock. I decided to repair the original stock as a test of my abilities and so that I could determine if I liked the rifle. After epoxy bedding the action and barrel shank, I did shoot it quite a bit and found it to hold up perfectly and shoot very well. The little Howa was carried during hunting season and accounted for a nice little 6 point.

My thoughts are that you definitely want to bed the action so that there is no possible movement when firing. For the money, I am very pleased with how it shoots. It is not to light not to heavy. Mine was 6lbs 10oz with a 3-9 Trijicon Accupoint installed. Over the holidays, I replaced the ugly rail with a set of Talley mounts.

Thanks. The recoil pad seems pretty thin. How effective is it?

Mine is 6.5 Creedmoor and it is not bad recoil wise. Truly, as I have aged, I have developed recoil induced headaches and own nothing but short actions now. I would think that it might not be fun to shoot in 308. I just reweighed the rifle with the Talley mounts installed and it comes in at 6lbs 8.2oz with the Trijicon. My only other gripe is with the plastic bottom "metal". The edges seem a bit sharp around the trigger guard, but I have not attempted to round them. For the money, these seem to be a pretty good bargain.
