No comparison whatsoever, John Wayne's version was BY FAR superior.
It's like when a song, for example, "Knocking on Heaven's Door" by Bob Dylan, is redone by another artist, their rendition, is never as good.
A masterpiece is a masterpiece, and the other copies are cheap imitations of the original.
Agreed except the point about Bob Dylan. He flat it sucks as a singer. As GrandDad used to say, “he couldn’t carry a tune in a paper bag”
He was an OK songwriter. 😜
Boy are you wrong! No one does this better than Dylan...
I wouldn’t cross the road to piss on Dylan. Much less attend a concert. Even if it was free. 🤪

I like both and the book. The book left me with the impression that although Maddie was looking for someone with true grit in the end it was her that had grit. The Coen brothers movie was true to the book and I thought made that point at the end showing the adult Maddie without her arm and willing to call Mr. Younger trash. The original movie had to make Rooster a hero because of Wayne’s reputation and fanbase so he had true grit. I liked his performance but the Rooster of the novel was a drunk quitter with a murderous, thieving history and would not fit Wayne’s image. Hallie was a better and more age appropriate Maddie. The movie scores in both were a good fit.

I don't have 51 minutes to watch the video. I read the book probably 20 years ago and felt the newer movie was closer to the book. If you've read the book some of the scenes in the later Rooster Cogburn movie came from the book too.
I like both movies equally well, but for different reasons.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.
