The 527s are very nice, classy rifles, but prices are up there now, and magazines are, or may become difficult to obtain. The Howas can be had with the lumpy plastic, walnut, or carbon fiber stocks, and as barreled actions from Brownells. The aftermarket bottom metal options are very reasonably priced; aftermarket stocks are generally less than comparable ones for full-sized rifles. If walnut suits you, they can be had for less than $600, figure another $180 for a floorplate, and you have a pretty nice rifle. Buy a barreled action from Brownells for about $450, pay about the same for a Pendleton stock or less for a Stocky’s blem carbon, then swap out the mag setup. Figure about a grand, and you’re in business with a very good and light rifle.
I put a Grendel together with the Pendleton stock and JO floorplate, and bought a Carbon .223, then swapped the factory mag for a JO unit that takes CZ527 mags. Bought three mags, a shorty flush-fit and two 5-round. Very nice kit. The CZ mags limit OAL, but that’s not a problem for me.
Fine little rifles, just need some lipstick.
